IN THIS REPEAT: The debut episode of the series Explorling Lewis Misquotes and Misconceptions.

If you have been on social media over the last few years then you have probably seen a quotation attributed to Lewis from someone that you wondered if he actually wrote. That happen to me time and time again; so much that I began to collect them as I researched whether or not Lewis wrote the quote in question. That led to a blog series examining each quotation (see link below). More recently I began collecting information related to the life of Lewis and his writings that are misunderstood and started a blog series on this (link also below). This led me to considering what you now see, the first of a six-part episode chatting about these topics. This initial show provides an overview of all the subjects address in the other programs. Guest host for today is Dr. Crystal Hurd.

IN THIS REPEAT: Here's a short talk from William O'Flaherty from 2015 examining quotes attributed to Lewis...are they really from him?

C.S. Lewis wrote many statements that standalone as great short quotations. However, some quotes when isolated from their context are actually problematic. That is, apart from their setting they often yield a very different understanding of what Lewis meant. Then there are quotes attributed to Lewis that are actually a incorrect paraphrase of something he wrote. This podcast explores these issues. It is William O'Flaherty presenting a twenty minute paper at the recent CSLIS conference that was held in Grove City, PA this year (late March, 2015). See below to read the actual paper and listen to a previous talk about quotations falsely attributed to Lewis.

IN THIS REPEAT: An earlier program from 2012 about a lost Lewis story that is a different version of one already known.

This book interview is from 2012, but it had not yet been featured here since changing the podcast audio hosting. It is a conversation with Dr. Charlie W. Starr and his book Light: C.S. Lewis's First and Final Short Story. It tells the story of how a manuscript surfaced that appeared to be a different version of a short story called "The Man Born Blind." The book reveals the results of his investigation and includes several interpretations of "Light." The interview was recorded at the 2012 C.S. Lewis Colloquium at Taylor University.

IN THIS REPEAT:I usually don't stray too far from material related to Lewis, but here's somewhat of an except. A fictional work by a Lewis scholar that had inspiration from him.

IN THIS REPEAT: An interview aboutThe Faun's Bookselfby Dr. Charlie Starr..A new book that released last month.

The Faun's Bookshelf is an interesting title that explores, as part of the subtitle reveals, "Why Myth Matters." Dr. Charlie Starr, the author, uses books C.S. Lewis mentions on Mr. Tumnus's bookshelf as the framework to examine what myth means and how it teaches us about reality. This interviewed was recorded on the campus of Taylor University the day before the 11th Frances W. Ewbank Colloquium, where he gave one of the keynote talks. Even though Charlie goes into a lot of deal about his book in this interview, you will learn even more about myth by purchasing his book (direct link given below). Speak thanks to Dr. Crystal Hurd who voiced the endorsement given at the start and also an except from Charlie's book.

IN THIS REPEAT: My 2013 interview with Colin Duriez on his biography on Lewis.

IN THE REPEAT: Another great resource from Colin Duriez from a few years ago.

Many books came out in 2013 on C.S. Lewis (the 50th anniversary of his death). Two alone actually came from Colin Duriez. Im repeating the interview I did about his second because my previous place of hosting my audio files no longer has it there. The book is called The A Z of C.S. Lewis: A Complete Guide to His Life, Thoughts and Writings. It takes an encyclopedic approach to the topic and thus provides a person to aspects of Lewiss life and writings that might be left unnoticed. In this interview Colin provides details about the layout of the book and shares some selections from it.

IN THIS REPEAT: Interview with Colin Duriez about his bookThe Oxford Inklings.

Colin Duriez has written about C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien many times over his writing career as an expert on the two. But only this year (2015) has he come out with a book exploring the two of them along with a group of other friends who often met twice a week. The Oxford Inklings takes a look at the origins of this group that is often falsely called a "writer's group." In this chat with William O'Flaherty, he explains why it was much more while giving insightful details about the lives of the key members of this influential circle.

IN THIS REPEAT: My show with Dr. Holly Ordway about new new apologetics book.

New for 2017 is a book by Dr. Holly Ordway entitled Apologetics and the Christian Imagination: An Integrated Approach to Defending the Faith. This podcast interview gives an overview of Hollys belief that both reason and imagination should be used for the most effective defense of the Christian faith. She has previously been on All About Jack for a couple of Essay Chat podcasts and co-hosted a series dealing with The Narnia Code, and talking about her spiritual autobiography Not Gods Type.

IN THIS REPEAT: My most recent new episode about a talk Corey Latta gave in June 2018.

- - - -

Dr. Corey Latta, author of C.S. Lewis and the Art of Writing, gave a talk at The Marion E. Wade Center during the recent 2018 C.S. Lewis Institute Summer Conference. "Writing Outside of the Inner Ring" is the revised title he told me when giving me permission to share his presentation. While sharing candidly about his own experiences, he uses Lewis's essay, "The Inner Ring" and several letters from 1930 to talk about motivation for writing (and other creative endeavors) and how to stay focused during times of discouragement.

IN THIS REPEAT: My last short talk (paper) at Taylor University...it's about my book,The Misquotable C.S. Lewis.

---------

I gave the following short talk on Friday, June 1, 2018 at the Taylor University Colloquium. My brief presentation was part of a variety of academic papers that were presented. The full title of my talk was Surprised By Misquotes: Unexpected Findings from The Misquotable C. S. Lewis. In it, I share some of the unusual details from my years of researching quotations credited to Lewis that he did not write. This talk, however, only gives a small snapshot of what is in the book.
