That temple of New Spanish cuisine, Ibiza, has closed.

The New Haven landmark, considered to be among the finest Spanish restaurants in the country, unexpectedly closed its doors a week ago, just a monthshort of its 18th anniversary.

There are many personal issues, said Sonia Blanco, who with her husband Ignacio, owned the restaurant that hasearned an enviable reputationover the years for itsSpanish cuisine. We are getting divorced.

The famed eatery on High Street that has been lauded over the years for its Spanishinspiredfusion of traditionalflavors with new techniques.Perfectly cooked quail, rabbit, seafood, chicken and beef with mouth-watering foams, purees, sauces andreductions made it a must eat there destinationfor foodies. Its paella menu was legendary and its tapaselections an appetite pleasing draw for students and staff from nearby Yale.

I am very sad about this, said Blancowho noted that their other restaurants, Ibiza Tapas Wine Bars in Hamden, Danbury and Northampton, Massachusettsremain open.
