‘You’re choking him’: Doctor ‘begged Ibiza police to release ex-rugby star’ before fatal heart attack

A doctor claims he pleaded with a Spanish cop to stop choking a British holidaymaker during a struggle before he later died of a heart attack.

Ex-rugby league star Luke Rhoden, 25, died last month outside the Ibiza Rocks Hotel in the party resort of San Antonio.

Police were called to the hotel after he plunged from a first-floor balcony following a suspected drink and drugs binge.

A post-mortem exam revealed Luke, who played prop forward as a junior for rugby league side Wigan Warriors and for Englands under 17 side, had died of a heart attack. It is not yet clear what caused it.

Today ,Santiago Akoskin - the first doctor on the scene - has claimed he had to ask a Civil Guard officer three times to remove his baton from Lukes neck before he withdrew it.

Spanish police say they had to restrain Luke for his own safety after he started ranting at other guests and refused medical treatment.

But Lukes dad Norman, who travelled to Ibiza in the wake of his sons death, says he is considering legal action over his sons death.

Mr Akoskin added further controversy to the investigation by claiming police used excessive force.

He said: "I told the police officer who was choking him three times to withdraw his baton from the tourists neck and he only removed it at my third time of asking.

"When I told him Youre choking him the first time he replied in a bad way by saying: I know what Im doing."
