For 25 years he has cut and styled the locks of the women of Norwich. Making the ladies look glamourous and boosting their self-esteem is all in a days work for Adrian Dunham.

But instead of celebrating his 50th birthday with his family, he chose to cycle 1,020 miles round the Balearic Islands on his own, raising 14,000 for a breast cancer charity. And he even got a donation from rock band the Kaiser Chiefs on the way.

Mr Dunham, owner of The Gallery hairdressers on Waterloo Road, Norwich, completed the bike ride in three weeks from Mallorca to Menorca to Ibiza and finishing back in Mallorca with just a backpack.

He said: I cycled 65 miles a day, which was exhausting. I would turn up at Spanish hotels covered in sweat, but the Spanish people were so welcoming and hospitable. I started to go a bit mad and spoke to the bike regularly.
