A group made up of business leaders, addiction treatment representatives, employment resources officials and family advocates have developed a workplace strategy to address economic and employment needs in the community as well as the health and recovery of those dealing with substance use disorder.

The Collaborative Recovery Empowerment of the Southern Tier, or CREST, is announcing the publication of a new report called Workplace Well-being: A Real Strategy to Increase Your Business Productivity.

The report is the result of a survey of Southern Tier business leaders working with workplace wellness practices advocate: Organizational Wellness Learning (OWL) Systems conducted from December 2021 through February 2022.

Officials say the survey found employers spent around 39% of their time every month dealing with such employee health issues as stress, burn-out and mental health issues.

Some of the groups working with OWL on the cooperative effort are The AGENCY (Broomes economic development agency), Broome-Tioga Workforce, The Family & Childrens Society, the Leatherstocking Education on Alcoholism/Addictions Foundation or LEAF and the Alcohol & Drug Council of Tompkins County.

The White Paper report can be downloaded at CREST partner websites including The Agency, Southerntier8.org and alcholdrugcouncil.org.

A business lunch featuring an in-depth presentation of the findings is scheduled for May 17 via video conference.
