Using Walls as Your Canvas – The Suburban Times

Sometimes you can see the writing on the wall. You can stop and think about what it means, and other times you can simply enjoy the paintings you see and dream.

Archaeology reveals that cave paintings and figures of art first appeared nearly 40,000 years ago. Art is still with us. Our daughter Andrea painted our living room with clouds and sky for the ceiling. Visitors to our home are always surprised and awed. Sharing art and beauty is a wonderful gift to explore and give.

Downtown Tacoma has a number of interesting murals on exterior walls. They brighten the scenery and amuse daily visitors. The word amuse come from the middle French word to divert the attention, beguile, delude. In other words, amuse means to change focus and enjoy.

There is a new mural on the wall at 23rd and Pacific. Its painted by lindsay moore and her husband, who is known as Gator_Mouf (instagram.com/#gator_mouf).

Lindsay says, We are just trying to beautify the city with the pandemic and protesting going on. Hopefully no more damage will be done. Its nice to drive by and see beautiful art on these boards.

Lindsay, reveals, Painted with my love for the last few evenings. I learned how to spray paint. Most know i work with brushes. Hand def hurts. Lindsay says, We also did one for jade gardens in Seattle id town. After they were broken into in the beg of the pandemic.

Lindsay also does commercial work and says, I did an 8 room day care center in Bremerton of characters for the little kids.

Art is always an opportunity to share and think . . . and look at life from a different perspective.

Telus Sues Shaw Over Misleading Fibre+ Internet Advertisements – iPhone in Canada

The internet wars in Western Canada are starting to heat up, as Telus has filed a lawsuit against Shaw in B.C. Supreme Court, alleging the latters recently launched Fibre+ gigabit Internet marketing is misleading customers.

According to Business in Vancouver, the Telus suit was filed on June 10 and focuses on Shaws marketing of Fibre+ as its not a true fibre optic service based on DOCSIS (Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification), the same tech used for cable TV.

Telus says its PureFibre internet service based on fibre optic directly connects to a customers home, and allows for faster speeds and fewer outages compared to Shaws DOCSIS-based internet.

Since Shaws Fibre+ Internet services do not use fibre optic cable to physically connect customers homes to the network, it is inaccurate and misleading to describe such a service as a fibre or fibre optic internet service, writes Telus in its filing.

The Telus suit says, For example, there is no difference whatsoever between Shaws recently-launched Fibre+ 300 Internet Service and its previous Internet 300 Service these are exactly the same product, the only difference being the misleading Fibre+ nomenclature associated with Shaws Fibre+ 300 Internet Service.

Other issues in the suit include the plus symbol in Shaws Fibre+ marketing, which Telus says it sends a message its a better offering compared to its own PureFibre service. Shaws misleading advertisements have caused harm and damage to Telus reputation, says the suit, with the latter seeking an injection on the formers marketing of Fibre+.

Telus says Shaw needs to disclose it is knowingly or recklessly made false or misleading representations to the public, while also pay for damages, including lost profits and cost of the lawsuit itself.

Shaw told Business in Vancouver in a statement the company would vigorously defend itself against the Telus lawsuit.

We are proud of our Fibre+ network previously known since 2016 as FibrePlus and stand behind its branding and strength. We call it Fibre+ because it is truly that:fibre plus more, said a Shaw spokesperson.

Shortly after Shaw launched Fibre+ in late May, Telus announced new PureFibre 1.5 gigabit Internet plans for customers in B.C. and Alberta, made available this week.

What have you personally, and you as an institution, learned about the right way to manage remotely over the last few months?

So I cant say that we can declare victory after 90 days, but here are the things that weve done in response to what weve learned. First of all, we gave everybody a day off. We also gave every Friday at 2 oclock off almost immediately. We also told people to build in commute times on their calendars. So rather than starting work at 6:30 in the morning, just for mental health reasons block the time until 9:00 as your own time do not let anything get scheduled.

We told our managers: Cut meetings from 60 minutes to 50. So people can take time, say hi to families, feed your child, take your child outside, teach your child through remote learning. You do not have to be on every call. And we deliberately built in daytime programming to prove that it was OK to take mental health breaks. We built in physical training, yoga. We have a master chef teaching people how to cook with their children. Weve done ask me anythings with celebrities. And the latest thing that weve done is were giving the week before July Fourth off to everybody. What weve learned is people need mental breaks. Again, this is not normal. Having to work from home with family there is different, and we need to acknowledge it and deal with it.

What are your thoughts on the student debt crisis, and how companies and governments might help?

Most student take on extraordinary debt, because colleges continue to raise their prices every step of the way. And they continue to cut the support that they offer to students. Many students dont graduate at all, and yet take on substantial debt. So we consider that to be a real challenge for this country and the next big economic crisis. We wanted to put our money where our mouth is, which is why we made a decision to pay off all of our employees student debt.

If corporations agreed to pay off some or all of this debt, I believe colleges would expand their curriculum to be more aligned with what companies in their local areas need as graduates. It would also tie the community and the companies and the institutions and the students all together to try to get a better education at a lower cost and lower debt in our communities.

Where are you when it comes to bringing workers back into the office? How are you going to stagger whom you bring back into the office and walk us through how youre making those decisions?

This is an area where we dont want to be a leader. What we said to our employees is dont expect to come into the office until your familys schools are reopened. We want to evaluate where theres a rise in cases or not. Were doing all the necessary things like social distancing in the office, masks and sanitizer, keyless and handless entry to everything, including the restrooms. So we have a lot of work being done in that area.
