Pro-Hillary Clinton group's fundraising approaches $6 million

One of the organizations founded to prod Hillary Rodham Clintonto seek the White House in 2016announced Thursday that it had raised more than $1.7 million in the first quarter of this year.

All told, the Ready for Hillary "super PAC," one of several groups that are laying the groundwork for a potentialClinton campaign, has raised$5.8 million from more than 55,000 donors, nearly all of whom contributed $100 or less.

While other pro-Clinton efforts are focused on deep-pocketed donors and building a rapid-response operation to counter Republican attacks on Clinton, Ready for Hillary is using the money to build a national voter data file, recruit volunteers and organize inearly electoral states such as Iowa, where Clinton's loss in 2008 dealt a body blow to her first presidential bid.

The group has limited donations to $25,000 and is collecting funds in a multitude of ways, including a gay and lesbian fundraiser Monday in West Hollywoodthat had the symbolic ticket cost of $20.16, a pricier lobbyist-hosted fundraiser in Washington this month and a direct-mail campaign.

All this comes as Clinton, the former secretary of State, first lady and U.S. senator, travels the nation delivering speeches, prepares for a book release in June and weighs whether to make a second bid for the White House.

"I am thinking about it," Clinton said Tuesday during a speech in San Francisco, responding to a question about the 2016 election, according to CNN. "But I am going to continue to think about it for a while."

She added: "I am not going to make a decision for a while because, you know, I am actually enjoying my life. I am actually having fun doing ordinary things like seeing my friends and going on long walks and playing with our dogs.... At the end of the day, it is what really gives joy and meaning to your life."

Super-PAC Urging 2016 Clinton Bid Raises $1.7 Million

A super-political action committee urging former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to run for president in 2016 said it raised more than $1.7 million in the first three months of this year.

The super-PAC, Ready for Hillary, has collected $5.75 million from 55,000 people since the pro-Clinton effort was created a year ago, according to a release from the PAC today. In the quarter, 22,000 new contributors gave an average of $53, with 9,500 donating a symbolic $20.16, according to a statement.

Clinton, 66, has said she will make a decision on a White House bid by the end of this year. She has a big lead over other Democrats in early voter preference surveys. Eighty-two percent of Democrats want her to run for president, according to a New York Times/CBS poll in February.

I am thinking about it, Clinton, a former U.S. senator from New York, said April 8 after a speech in San Francisco. Im not going to make a decision for a while because Im actually enjoying my life.

Ready for Hillary will file a report to the Federal Election Commission by April 15 detailing its donors and spending for the first quarter.

It previously raised $4 million in 2013 from donors including billionaire Alice Walton, the daughter of Bentonville, Arkansas-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc. founder Sam Walton, and billionaire financier George Soros.

Walton and Soros each gave $25,000, the maximum donation Ready for Hillary is accepting even though super-PACs are permitted to accept contributions in unlimited amounts. The PACs leaders say they want to focus on building grassroots support by identifying supporters on Facebook, shipping bumper stickers and holding pro-Clinton events.

The PAC said it has identified 2 million Clinton supporters and have persuaded 700,000 people to sign a pledge to help her win if she runs. Contributions were received from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and U.S. territories, the group said.

Priorities USA Action, a super-PAC that aired television ads in 2012 promoting President Barack Obama and attacking Republican challenger Mitt Romney, is preparing to aid a Clinton 2016 campaign.

Hillary Clinton 'thinking about' presidential run in 2016

WASHINGTON

Asked again the question on the mind of everyone who follows U.S. politics, Hillary Clinton said Tuesday she was "thinking" about running for president in 2016.

"Part of it is because the hard questions are not: 'Do you want to be president? Can you win?' The hard questions are why. 'Why would you want to do this and what can you offer that could make a difference?'" Clinton said in a video of the exchange posted on the Internet.

"I saw it from afar when I was secretary and it was disheartening and even embarrassing to see people arguing about letting us default on our debt, really, and things that were just so beyond the pale," said Clinton, who served as secretary of state in Obama's first term.

Clinton, who has been giving speeches across the country since leaving the State Department last year, frequently deflects questions about her presidential ambitions. The former first lady has said she is considering a White House bid, but that she will not make a decision before the end of 2014.

"I'm not going to make a decision for a while because I'm actually enjoying my life," Clinton said on Tuesday. "I'm actually having fun."
