Forbes Georgia Editor Quits Citing 'Censorship'

An editor-in-chief of the Georgian edition of Forbes, Revaz Sakevarishvili, said he was quitting the magazine citing systematic attempts of censorship and meddling into editorial independence by a publisher company.

Forbes Georgia is one of those 21 international licensee editions which the publishing and new media company, Forbes, has worldwide.

Forbes Georgia was launched in December 2011 and its publisher is Media Partners Georgia, which, according to Forbes, is a publishing house established by partners that have more than ten years of industry experience in Caucasus and Central Asia."

Sakevarishvili said in a statement on March 27, that the most recent case of censorship attempt by co-founder of Media Partners, Gagik Yeghiazarian, came when Forbes Georgia wanted to make a focus of its next issue Bidzina Ivanishvili, a Georgian opposition politician, who featured in the Forbes magazine's annual list of the world's billionaires earlier this month with an accompanying lengthy story profiling the billionaire-turned-politician.

Sakevarishvili alleged that after backing off from his initial attempt to completely remove story about Ivanishvili from Forbes Georgias next issue, Yeghiazarian then started meddling in preparing questions for an interview with Ivanishvili and after preparing a story, Sakevarishvili claimed, Yeghiazarian tried to directly and roughly censor the story.

Maia Mirijanashvili of Media Partners Georgia told Civil.ge on Tuesday that the company would put a statement in response to Sakevarishvilis allegations on Forbes Georgia website on March 28.

Sakevarishvili suggested that Yeghiazarians friendship with Gela Bezhuashvili, chief of the Georgian intelligence service, was largely the reason behind censorship attempts from the publisher.

Former editor-in-chief of Forbes Georgia also said that his email correspondence with Yeghiazarian contains evidence to prove his allegations about censorship attempts from the publisher and would make them public if needed.

Motor Management System includes Profinet interface.

The Siemens Industry Automation Division has expanded its modular Simocode pro motor management system to include a Simocode pro V Profinet basic unit with two RJ45 interfaces. This means that the system can be connected via Profinet to higher-level controllers such as Simatic S7 or to control systems such as Simatic PCS 7. Profinet can be used to provide media redundancy functions which, for example, ensure that a connection is maintained within a network with ring topology even if one communication channel fails. This helps to increase the availability and, consequently, the productivity of the entire plant.

With its Profinet compatibility, the new basic unit also offers more far-reaching diagnostic and control functions in addition to simple communication between higher-level plant control and drive systems. Simocode pro, for example, includes integrated web diagnostics as well as a server for OPC UA, the multi-vendor communication standard in automation. With the aid of an Internet browser, all diagnostic and service data relating to the motor feeders - for example status information, measured values as well as service data and statistics - can be called up from anywhere via a network connection and the web server. This means a lot more flexibility for the user. The integrated OPC UA server allows this data to be called up from the higher-level Scada system via HMI panels at field level. Users can also have their diagnostic data shown in a customized display adapted to their application. A further advantage of the OPC UA server is that control signals can be transmitted to the control system via a secure link. As a result, the user can monitor and control the drives more effectively and provide them with better protection.

Profienergy has also been integrated into the new basic unit for Simocode pro with the Profinet interface. The motors are controlled centrally via Profinet and can, for example, be shut down during breaks. The measured values and status information can also be called up via the Profienergy protocol, thus enabling efficient energy and load management. This considerably reduces the plant's energy requirements and costs.

Background to Simocode pro: in many automated processes, plant downtimes are extremely cost-intensive. The flexible, modular Simocode pro motor management system for low-voltage motors ensures the highest possible level of availability for drives as all the important performance parameters are monitored and the system protected against overload and short-circuits. In critical situations, Simocode pro shuts down the connected motors. This way malfunctions can be prevented by using the Siemens motor management system, and when a fault does occur, it can be remedied faster. All in all, the quality of process control rises and costs fall thanks to shorter downtimes.

Romney Backer Says Santorum Has Lost 'Discipline and Self-Control'

Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum isrunning his presidential campaign on "ego and emotion,"a backer of rival Mitt Romney said on Monday. Former New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu referred to a weekend incident, in which Santorum engaged in a heated exchange with a New York Times reporter.

"Sen. Santorum really has lost his personal discipline and self-control in the process, lashing out at the press and frankly lashing out at his opponents," Sununu told reporters on a conference call.

After a campaign event in Wisconsin on Sunday, Santorum was repeatedly asked to clarify a portion of his speech, but the candidate got agitated with the questioning.

"Quit distorting our words. If I see it, it's bullshit. Come on man. What are you doing?" Santorum said. "I'm upset when the media distort what I say. Yeah I do get upset. You know exactly what I was saying and you're misrepresenting it. What are you guys in the business of doing, reporting the truth or are you here to try to spin and make news? Stop it."

Romney's campaign jumped on the outburst.

"It is one thing to lose your temper at a New York Times reporter and it's another to have to deal with the pressures of folks on the international stage and even opposing congressional leaders," said Sununu, who served as chief of staff for President George H.W. Bush.

"You need discipline, you need self-control, you need to be able to handle your messaging and focus on it. You need to have a temperament that makes people want to follow the leader as president and certainly Rick Santorum's outburst in the last few days has in my opinion disqualified him completely," he added.

Also on the call was former Wisconsin State Sen. Ted Kanavas who touted Romney's support for the Badger State's embattled GOP Gov. Scott Walker.
