Conchita Wurst’s Eurovision win grants Vienna gay tourism boost

Sitting in the Cafe Savoy, a venerable gay institution just off the Naschmarkt market, Brian Melaugh, an Irish tourist, said: "Vienna has a pretty formal image but it also has a good gay scene. It offers everything from simple bars to sex clubs."

"Lots of older gays come to Vienna, he told AFP. Younger ones go to places like Ibiza.

In particular, people from nearby eastern Europe find it a safe haven, says Boyan Dervishev, the manager of Cafe Savoy who arrived in Vienna from his native Bulgaria 26 years ago.

Gay visitors from eastern Europe appreciate the "normality," he said. "If they embarrass themselves, it's not a scandal.

The city hosts several gay events including the five-day Vienna Pride, which this year culminates on June 14 with a march of around 100,000 members of the LGBT community.

In addition, Vienna city hall hosts the Life Ball, an annual event that over the past 20 or so years has become one of the world's best-known AIDS charity events.

This year the extravaganza takes place on May 31 and is due to be attended by Bill Clinton, the former US president and Ricky Martin, the singer.

Next years Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Austria after the country's first win since Udo Juergens, who won in 1966 with "Merci, Cherie".

Viennas best bars for gay travellers

Caf Savoy, Linke Wienzeile 36, 1060 Vienna, savoy.at (coffeehouse, open at night as well) is the pick of the bunch, stands out for its excellent location right on the world-famous Naschmarkt, with its ostentatiously ornate baroque interior. During summer you can enjoy a coffee outside on the sidewalk as you indulge in a spot of people watching and it opens at night as well. Inside a pair of gigantic single-plate mirrors provide a focal point you wont find any bigger anywhere except in the Palais de Versailles.

Ann Coulter's version of #BringBackOurGirls receives backlash

NEW YORK, May 13 (UPI) --Ann Coulter came under fire on social media after she tweeted a version of #BringBackOurGirls with #BringBackOurCountry.

The conservative pundit decided to do her own version of first lady Michelle Obama's photo, which showed a forlorn Obama holding a sign saying #BringBackOurGirls. Obama's photo is part of a global Twitter campaign to bring attention to the 300 kidnapped girls in Nigeria, calling for the Nigerian government to rescue them from the terrorist group Boko Haram.

When Coulter did her impression of the picture with a sign that said #BringBackOurCountry, it was not received well by social media. Twitter users decided to photoshop the sign Coulter was holding to highlight the insensitivity of her actions.

Ann Coulter Inadvertently Turns Herself Into a Joke After Mocking #BringBackOurGirls Campaign

Comedy is not Ann Coulter's forte.

The conservative commentator tried to humorously protest the #BringBackOurGirls movement Sunday by tweeting a photo of herself holding up a sign that read: "Bring Back Our Country." Her attempt at humor was poorly received, as dozens of memes proves. After all, First Lady Michelle Obama and Academy Award winner Anne Hathaway are among the thousands who have been championing the #BringBackOurGirls cause, which was created earlier this month to draw support for the missing schoolgirls in Nigeria. Since Coulter published her picture, it's been retweeted more than 2,000 times.

"My hashtag contribution to world affairs..." Coulter tweeted. Twitter user @FullOfBalogna was the first to alter the image so that Coulter's paper appeared blank, writing, "I'm a miserable person who peddles hate to make money off dumb republicans." Needless to say, the polarizing political pundit's plan backfired spectacularly. Here are some of the more popular memes:

Ben Affleck's Batman costume; Alec Baldwin arrested; Ann Coulter's epic fail; more – P.M. entertainment news links

CLEVELAND, Ohio Tuesday's entertainment news includes a first look at Ben Affleck as Batman, Alec Baldwin getting arrested and Channing Tatum to play an X-Men character.

Director Zack Snyder has tweeted the first photo of Ben Affleck as Batman and it's pretty intense. The photo comes after Snyder tweeted an image of the Batmobile earlier in the week.

Bob Dylan has released a new song without warning. The track is a cover of Frank Sinatra's "Full Moon and Empty Arms." A representative of Dylan's told Rolling Stone the song will be featured on a forthcoming album from Dylan.

It looks like Channing Tatum will join the X-Men universe in the role of Gambit for 2016's "X-Men: Apocalypse." It's not completely confirmed, but pretty much.

Alec Baldwin was arrested Tuesday after he, allegedly, verbally assaulted two officers in New York City after they stopped him for riding his bike the wrong way down a street.

Shonda Rhimes, the creator behind "Scandal" and "Grey's Anatomy," has agreed to a four-year deal to remain with ABC studios through 2018. Expect more hit shows.

Ann Coulter's attempt at comedy over the weekend has failed. Coulter attempted to mock the #BringBackOurGirls campaign by posting a photo of her holding up a sign that reads, "Bring Back Our Country." The move set up a series of hilarious memes mocking Coulter.
