Not So Fast: Todays Hillary Clinton Backlash

There are a lot of Democrats who arent quite ready for Hillary Clinton.

Two stories in Thursdays Journal illustrate hurdles Mrs. Clinton faces within her own party despite the institutional support her presumed candidacy enjoys.

Elizabeth Williamson delivers a Page One profile of former Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer, who is working to position himself as the anti-Clinton. He boasts of annoying President Barack Obama by touting Canadas single-payer health care system to Mr. Obamas face. (Mr. Obamas aide Jim Messina denied that Mr. Obama scolded Mr. Schweitzer.)

Mr. Schweitzer openly mulls his presidential odds.

Could I make a difference? Could I get elected? I suppose yes, he said.

He also borrows liberally from Mr. Obamas 2008 change-Washington mantra one that the president touts when he goes fishing for grassroots support but has otherwise gone dormant.

I think Ive got ideas and drive, Mr. Schweitzer said. But how do you tell the lobbyists and corporations, You dont rule Washington, D.C., when they do? Once the pigs start squealing, nobody can hear.

In another story, Peter Nicholas writes about the liberal interest groups that are getting antsy that the presumed 2016 Democratic presidential nominee remains a blank slate on a range of issues.

Despite overseeing the Keystone XL pipeline approval process while she was secretary of state, Mrs. Clinton has been silent on the issue. She hasnt weighed in on the Obama administrations deportation policy aside from offering vague support for comprehensive immigration reform. And she will face increasing pressure from the Elizabeth Warren wing of the party that wants tougher rules on big banks many of which would make up part of her financial base in a presidential campaign.

All this comes as Mrs. Clinton prepares to go on tour promoting her forthcoming book, Hard Choices. On Tuesday, ABC announced it scored the first interviews with Mrs. Clinton, which are due to air June 9 and 10.

GOP tries to define Clinton for young voters

In presidential politics, very little is random. And the recent questions about Hillary Clinton's age and health is anything but.

National Republicans, as well as anti-Clinton outside groups and right-wing blogs, have stepped up efforts to redefine Clinton, despite her nearly 40 years on the political stage.

At the heart of this effort is one group of voters: young people.

Republicans think that young voters -- particularly Americans who were in diapers or listening to N*SYNC during the eight years that Hillary Clinton lived in the White House -- could use a refresher course on all things Clinton. Republicans feel young people could use their version of Clinton's history - and might be impressionable over what might seem like distant history.

They have stepped up their message and research efforts to rehash the news of the '90s -- including the policies and scandals that defined the years from 1992 to 2000 -- as part of their wider campaign against her as she mulls another run for president.

Democrats charge that the Republican campaign is just "dredging up" old news. Republicans describe it as "citing" recent history.

"There is a whole swath of voters out there who obviously know of Hillary Clinton and understand who the Clintons are, but they don't know of her as the politician, they don't know the specifics about her time in the White House," Kirsten Kukowski, spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee, said.

Details about the Clinton White House years is not old news for people who were in "grade school" at the time, she said.

The strategy has obvious pitfalls. Republicans risk looking petty by bringing up old scandals. And it hinges on the assumption that young voters will be receptive to Republican views of Clinton, who is liked by nearly two thirds of those between 18-29 sampled in a recent Quinnipiac University Poll.

"Republicans have been good lately at proving they are all about the past while Secretary Clinton is busy looking to the future," said Adrienne Elrod, communications director for Correct the Record, a pro-Clinton rapid response organization. "But, if Republicans want to spend money educating young voters about how strong the economy was under President Clinton's leadership in the 90s and how American broad-based prosperity was was at an all time high, who are we to stop them?"

Two Spokane County building employees invoked their Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination this week in a case that accuses the county of improperly back-dating documents to allow construction of a gas station where a state board ruled it was notallowed.

The county workers testified Monday during an appeal before the county hearing examiner of a building permit application for a convenience store and gas station at Argonne and Bigelow Gulchroads.

Building Director Randy Vissia, one of the two county employees who invoked his Fifth Amendment rights, said he was advised to not answer questions by a county attorney even though, according to Vissia, his employee, Julie Shatto, had done nothing wrong in approving the permit application as completed. Shatto also declined to answer questions at the hearing involving the date that the application was certified ascomplete.

Property owner and developer Stephen Smart, who was at the hearing to defend his project, said the appellant attorneys were acting like attackdogs.

Local residents and neighborhood groups appealed the county decision to let the project proceed, arguing the project was flawed on several grounds, including environmental review and applicationcompleteness.

Hub Link Building With Majestic SEO

A while back I wrote a piece outlining 78 of my favorite SEO resources. It was fairly well received and based on some of the questions I received I thought it wise to do a few articles outlining how I use some of the features of these tools.

This post will look at how to build links around industry hubs using Majestic SEO's Clique Hunter. For those who are more familiar with Ahrefs, Majestic's Clique Hunter is similar to the Domain Comparison tool (in their Labs section).

I use a wide variety of tools ranging from free add-ons like SEO Quake to custom developed tools for more specific needs. However, Majestic has been one of the core paid tools we rely on for some time now. The reason for this is they have a sizable index of links, and in this case at least, size matters a lot! The bigger it is, the better you can use it.

So let's get to it. Here's how you can use Majestic SEO's Clique Hunter to find hubs and secure links.

Before we get into how to use the tool we should probably cover why. Let's think about what the Clique Hunter produces and what it represents.

By following the steps outlined below you'll be provided with a list of domains that link to multiple top-ranking competitors for a specific term. So let's think about that for a moment. A domain linking to 5 of the top 5 ranking sites, that does not link to you, is likely:

Now, it has to be noted in advance that simply because a site appears in Clique Hunter doesn't mean it's good. In a world where we fight for every link and where relevancy and context are increasingly important, every mechanism to increase the odds of a solid lead on a link is welcome. We'll discuss this more later on, but for now let's cover the steps required to pull some great backlink leads out of the data provided by Majestic SEO.

OK, log yourself into Majestic SEO and the follow these steps.

Because I don't want to list off anything that might be competitive for our readers (or let's face facts, myself or one of our clients) I'm going to go with "seo blog". The top five ranking URLs in the results are:
