Build A Face-Recognising Safe With A Raspberry Pi

Having a safe is a great way to store your valuables. Now, you can lock them away in a DIY, face-recognising setup with a some free software, a Raspberry Pi and a Pi camera.

Tony DiCola and David Scheltema at Make put together a step-by-step guide for installing and configuring the software, connecting the components and mounting the Pi on the safe door. The free software is based on OpenCV, a small program that runs well on a Raspberry Pi, and the camera is just a proper Pi camera module.

Once everything is all set up, you train the installed software to recognise your face and hide your prized possessions away. If youre concerned with thieves printing out a picture of your face, fear not: First of all, they would have to know its a face-recognising safe. Secondly, you can adjust the sensitivity to make the software much stricter. For the complete build guide, check out the link below.

Will Your Business (And Your Website) Adapt & Evolve With Google?

Youre losing revenue, missing opportunities and placing your business at risk if you ignore how Google adapts and evolves day by day.

The Google we see today is notthe same search engine challenger that launched in 1998. It has constantly innovated to stay on top of the hyper-competitive search market. With your business success intimately linked to the search giant, you run a great risk by not adapting and growing in pace with these innovations.

Often, when acompany decidesto launch a new website, it will pick a launch date and just go for it.The process is a lotlike creatinga paper airplane once its launched, youre no longer in control. It cantake any course, fly whatever distance and land anywhere at all.

Companies that take this approach to launching a site will meetwith designers and web developers, draw up a to-do list, and check off each item as tasks are completed. When all the items have been checked off, the site is launched.

The companythen expects that, within a few months, Tinkerbell will come andsprinkle some magic SEO dust on its creation and rocket it to the top of Google search results!

Unfortunately, thats not going to happen. While the items in this companys to-do list may have been good ones, its likely that theseone-off tasks were notconsidered within the context of a larger, ongoing SEO strategy.

The above is not an uncommon scenario many companies do not think about SEO in the early planning stages of website development. They mistakenly believe that SEO is itself a one-off item, something to be tacked ononce the site is complete.

The truth is that search engine optimization needs to be built into the foundation of your website everything from your site architecture to how your site is coded to which CMS platform you choose will all impact SEO.

SEO doesnt stop when your site is launched, either. At that point,SEO then becomes an ongoing process of keeping up with competitors, which necessitates knowing the latest tactics and keeping up with Googles ever-changing guidelines.
