Sen. Rand Paul is planning to open a political office in the California Bay Area, signaling how far along his presidential ambitions have developed.
The Kentucky Republican told the San Francisco Chronicle on Saturday that he was in the process of opening the new office, but did not specify any dates. And his aides were reluctant to say more at this point.
A request for details sent to Mr. Pauls official Senate press office was returned by Mr. Pauls communications adviser Sergio Gor, who referred questions to the senators political action committee, RAND PAC. An inquiry to the PAC was also returned by Mr. Gor, who said to stay tuned for an announcement soon.
In his interview with the Chronicle, Mr. Paul alluded to the location as a strategic campaign port, saying, Theres a lot of smart people in Silicon Valley, and we want to use their brains to figure out how to win.
When asked what exactly he wants to win, Mr. Paul dodged, saying, Well, for the party, winning nationally. My goal for the past year has been to try to widen the part message and make the party big enough to win nationally.
