Al Sharpton has been rather outspoken on the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson earlier this year, and today he spoke out rather skeptically against the version of events as Officer Darren Wilson reportedly recalled them.
Sharpton was in Ferguson during the protests, and repeatedly scolded rioters for trying to seek justice through unjust and criminal means. But, of course, hes also been rather critical of the police for how theyve conducted themselves.
And as Business Insiders Colin Campbell reports, Sharpton took some serious issue with how Wilson recalls what happened, based on a report last night from The New York Times. Sharpton spoke at a rally earlier today for his group National Action Network, and found a pattern in how men who have shot black teenagers defend themselves:
We were involved in Trayvon Martin. We were supportive of Jordan Davis. The strange thing is that all of them used the same excuse The only gun there was Darren Wilsons! Strange parallels with all of these cases.
Furthermore, Sharpton asked, how did the scuffle start in the first place? And why are you trying to tell me that a man ran back at you when he knew you had the gun and you already shot him?
Sharpton is planning to hold a four-day Michael Brown Weekend from October 31st to November 3rd.
