Special Report – Online Off-Limits

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Is social media causing conflict in your relationship?

Two recent studies found it can, and it can lead to infidelity, breakup, or divorce.

Newschannel 3 spoke to some relationship experts and two couples entrenched in social media.

The studies published in cyberpsychology, behavior, and social networking focused on Facebook and Twitter.

The author found the more a couple uses Twitter or Facebook, the more they will argue about being on social media, and it can eventually end a romantic relationship.

For some West Michigan couples it was social media that brought them together. Take for example Brad and Chris Allison, and Amie and Jason Allen.

The Allisons were married less than a year ago.

Chris was living in Uraguay when he met Brad on Facebook, and later became the first person to come to the U.S. on a same-sex fiance visa.

But before they tied the knot, the Allisons spent more than a year dating on-line, and it didn't always go smoothly.

"My ex at the time was on Facebook, and I know he would get a little jealous, when there was posts from him," Brad said.
