Social Networking For Your…Car? Unique Ridesharing Platform Launches Global Fundraiser

Toms River, New Jersey (PRWEB) November 12, 2013

There is a new way to get around town. An unconventional and growing trend in transportation: social networking for ridesharing. GoVeho.com, the first social networking site for carpooling, is launching a global fundraising effort to aid their mission to provide commuters an easy, on-demand carpooling option that can reduce deadly carbon emissions by an estimated six tons per average rider, per year.

GoVehos unique social networking platform allows users to connect to and arrange rides with other would-be carpoolers. GoVeho.com users are often students or young professionals who are otherwise at the mercy of public transportation. These commuters find that carpooling saves them time, money and affords them additional flexibility through a virtual network that also strengthens in-person ties within their community.

At a time when an environmentally conscious public is crying out for viable carbon reducing solutions, the sustainable business model of GoVeho makes it an easy and attractive option for eco-friendly donors. GoVeho will be accepting contributions to further its green efforts through indiegogo.com, an industry leading crowd-funding platform. GoVeho is the brainchild of co-founders Timothy J. Petrin, Esq. and Ajay Gaglani, both Rutgers University graduates. Petrin and Gaglani are involved in numerous successful business ventures, but recently felt compelled to pursue more community and environmentally minded entrepreneurship with their newest project, GoVeho.com.

The rewards of carpooling are clear, both for the person and for the planet. The social benefits of the carpool setting have been shown to reduce stress, and the $1.1 billion annual national savings only enhances the riders mood. (Commuter Solutions, Green Living: 9.12.2012) Environmental issue author, Mrunal Belvalkar surmised that "if every passenger car in the US carried just one additional commuter for a single day, the US could save over 30 million gallons of gasoline in a single day[.] In a week, the US could save more than 210 million gallons of fuel."

According to recent studies, the average American spends over 430 hours driving every year, which equals about 18 days. In a single year, a passenger car emits around 10,000 pounds of carbon dioxide, 600 pounds of carbon monoxide and consumes around 550 gallons of gasoline. (buzzle.com) Adam Stein of Terrapass, a social enterprise that provides carbon offsetting products, estimates that burning one gallon of gas creates 20 pounds of carbon dioxide, and the average car emits about six tons of carbon dioxide every year. GoVeho.com helps riders to alter their role in the carbon cycle.

Currently GoVehos ride sharing network is available at http://www.GoVeho.com and the free app is due on the iPhone and android market this winter.

Nigerians query Abati over ‘Internet-age Presidency’

Presidential Assistant on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, has been severely criticised for describing the Goodluck Jonathan Administration as the first Internet-age Presidency Nigeria ever had.

In an interview posted on his personal website, Abati stated that the proliferation of online platforms and the various social networking sites had made his job as the Presidents spokesman tasking.

He said that though social media forms may be seen as symbols of the freedom of expression, many sadists, psychopaths, mischief-makers, Luciferian characters and their cheerleaders, were exploiting them to cause public disaffection.

He accused some Nigerians of using the freedom online platforms offer to utter nonsense, adding that such people hide their identity, tell lies and say things they would not ordinarily say in the open.

He said, There is no doubt that the Jonathan Presidency is effectively the first Internet-age presidency that Nigerians have had. The Internet didnt start in his time, you know. Under former President Olusegun Obasanjo the Internet was there and the social media in Nigeria was just emerging as a tool of socio-political engagement.

Under late President Yaradua too, it was beginning to find its roots. But under President Jonathan, the social media has become an explosive, unavoidable phenomenon such that as spokesman to the President, I have to deal with an entirely different kind of communications and public relations template. I doubt if any spokesman in this office before has had to deal with the same scope of Internet penetration.

Abati said that though he makes use of the social media for publicity purposes and as an observatory for monitoring tenor of public discourse, the associated online networks were an imperfect medium.

Today, everybody is a journalist. All you need is a phone, an i-Pad and access to the Internet. You can set up your own blog; you can rely on a BlackBerry smartphone, and you dont need a licence. But the question is: who guards the guardians? I think that is a relevant question. Otherwise, the social media could do more harm than good in many circumstances, Abati added.

But Nigerians, who read the interview online, wondered if the Internet-age Presidency referred to by Abati should be a hindrance to development and the fight against corruption.

The respondents said they were surprised that the presidential aide would preoccupy himself with such a description of the presidency when there were many issues begging for attention in the Nigerian polity.
