Social networking appears to be the best channel for monitoring, promoting, announcing and engaging like-minded people.
Facebook, Twitter and Instagram are once again the top three social-media platforms, not just for individuals, but also for corporations and organisations. In fact, traffic on these three platforms has risen substantially in Thailand over the past couple of weeks.
According to Zocial Inc, a company that monitors and analyses social media, traffic on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pantip.com surged from October 12 to November 11.
It found that Twitter, with 800,000 messages, appeared to be the most used channel to convey messages against the amnesty bill. Also the Thai phrase "sud soi" or end of track/lane was the most frequently used term across the board.
Zocial also learned that the number of women discussing political issues had risen. Previously, the ratio between men and women in relation to politics-based discussions was 70:30, but this time the ratio changed to around 60:40.
At Pantip.com, there were more than 6,000 topics on politics, while a total
of 198,399 comments posted were directly related to the controversial amnesty bill.
Meanwhile, 2,382 photographs related to the fight against the amnesty bill were posted on Instagram, which won more than 500,000 "likes".
It is clear social-media will continue to have a dynamic effect on people's lives on a daily basis, with comments and ideas - positive or negative - going "viral" very quickly.
The latest message to go viral was one quoting Tan Passakornnatee, chairman and chief executive officer of Ichitan Group, in which he allegedly said the anti-amnesty bill protests were not large enough.
