Being A Rockstar On Social Media – Eleni Tavantzis

I recently had the absolute pleasure of speaking to a social media rock star on my podcast,All The Social Ladies.EleniTavantzis is the Senior Manager, Social Media Marketing & Public Relations at Lilly Pulitzer. She has been in the social media space a long time and says it comes down to magic sauce, a combination of being in the right place at the right time and being unafraid to do some professional stalking! I wanted to share her story with you and a few pearls of her wisdom.

Elenis Story

Elenistarted writing copy for QVC straight out of college. Writing was her talent and favorite skill to use, but it wasnt her passion. Her solution: Try a few things in different departments, look at the people you admire higher up, and figure out how they got there. By having the courage to speak to these people,Elenifound herself on a research task force for the first Facebook page at QVC which led to her becoming the first social media employee there. Her advice in growing your career is to make yourself available, express an active interest and make those important connections. Take advantage of the people in your company and build your network. Since then, social media at QVC has grown exponentially, and whenElenimoved on in June 2013, there were over 100 employees in social media alone. She truly did leave behind a great legacy.

All Aboard!

How didElenimanage to build such an amazing social presence and convince the C-Suite to put more than 100 jobs into social media? On my podcast,Elenijokes about the deck she presented to the C-Suite titled, The Convincing & The Plan. All jokes aside, there are four key things that enabled her to put social media at the forefront for QVC:

You can probably tell thatEleniis an advocate of rallying loyal fans, wanting to hug each one even more and show them the love! Is Social Media Very Good For Ecommerce Conversions?

Social media might not be all that great for ecommerce. At least not yet. Sure, its wonderful for branding and general marketing, but as far as getting actual conversions, the channel is severely lacking, according to some sources.

Do you see significant conversions from social media referrals? How does it stack up to other channels like search and email? Let us know in the comments.

Bounce Exchange conducted a survey, and found that 83% of online marketers believe social media marketing is important for their businesses, but after analyzing over $1 billion U.S. ecommerce transactions, it found that social media marketing efforts only account for about 1.2% of total site conversions.

Among its other findings:

Bounce Exchange also brings up the fact that Facebook has all but killed the organic reach of Page post (but you already know all about that), though according to Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook still overall a very good, organic and free way to reach and communicate with your customers.

He didnt actually say it was a very good way to sell to customers.

While the success of ecommerce conversions through social media channels will obviously vary greatly by business, it could trend towards the more positive in the months and years to come. This is starting to become an actual focus of social platforms.

As you may know, Facebook and Twitter are both testing buy buttons, which enable brands to give customers direct calls to action in their News Feeds and timelines. See something cool that you really want to own as youre doing your daily browsing (which lets be honest, occurs multiple times throughout the day)? Just click buy and get it without jumping through extra hoops. Both buttons should be significant in improving conversions from mobile devices.

In fact, we had a pretty good conversation about that with ChannelAdvisor CEO Scot Wingo a while back. Facebooks in particular could be just what mobile commerce is looking for. This is the kind of thing youre inevitably going to start seeing more of in your News Feed:

Heres an example of a tweet with the button.

OutMarket Hosts Social Strategy Webinar for Health Care Marketers

Beltsville, MD (PRWEB) December 04, 2014

OutMarket, a provider of marketing automation software and services, today announced its Social Strategies That Work for Health Care Marketers webinar on Tuesday, December 16 at 2 p.m. ET. This instructional, hour-long webinar will feature guest speaker Nate Elliott, VP and Principal Analyst at Forrester Research Inc., who will introduce the P.O.S.T. process: a systematic, four-step method for crafting a business social media strategy and explain how it can drive success for health care marketers.

Most marketing leaders now understand that social media plays a growing role in how people discover, explore and engage with their companies and products. However, ten years into the social marketing boom, many marketers are still going about social strategy backward: picking technologies such as Facebook or Twitter first instead of focusing on what they want to accomplish. Instead of asking what technology to use, marketers should first be evaluating who theyre trying to reach, what they want to accomplish, and which set of social tactics best fit those goals.

Actionable takeaways from the webinar will include:

As a vice president and principal analyst serving Marketing Leadership Professionals, Nate Elliott helps companies develop interactive marketing strategies for global and emerging markets, with a special focus on branding channels such as social media and online video advertising. His clients come from nearly every industry including consumer goods, pharmaceuticals, and financial services and from all over the world.

Effective Student Marketing President Andy Kelley Announces Plan to Share Social Media Strategies with Postsecondary …

(Andover, MA) (PRWEB) December 04, 2014

Andy Kelley, president of Effective Student Marketing, recently announced plans to offer his marketing expertise in a series of regularly occurring articles for Career Education Review. The journal, published continuously since 1926, provides education leaders with in-depth information they can use to remain competitive in todays education arena. Kelley says he plans to offer school leaders advice on how they can use social media to fulfill their overall missions, promote their programs, and attract new students, while developing long-lasting relationships with current students, graduates and the community at large.

Using current research, case studies, best practices, and refined methodologies, I will provide leaders with the tools they need to build advantageous social media relationships with students, prospects, graduates and influencers, wrote Kelley.

In the first article, he builds a strong foundation as to the merits of social media as a marketing and recruitment tool and explains why schools should use it to create online communities that reach current, past and future students.

Noting that some 98 percent of 18 to 24-year-olds are on social media, Kelley stresses the need for schools to be present where their students are. However, he points out that school leaders cannot rely on a single social media platform to net the results they desire because the landscape is continually shifting.

Social media may be a moving marketing target, wrote Kelley, but it is one that schools must hone in on if they want to remain a relevant presence in the lives of their students, graduates and future students.

Among the topics Kelley says he will cover in the coming months are how to:

Kelley says that social media can be an invaluable marketing tool, but only if it is used to its full potential. In the months to come, he says he intends to guide school leaders on how best to harness the power of social media so that their efforts resonate with students, graduates, influencers, prospects and the community at large.

According to Kelley, Social media relationships can develop into long-lasting and personally interactive real relationships that enhance a schools reputation, its brand and its good-standing as an institution.
