Chicago Has the Best Hostels in North America | Travel & Tea

In todays economy, many people are looking for a low-coast way to enjoy traveling around the country. Hostels can offer a good solution for those seeking budget travel to many of the most interesting cities in the North America. Chicago, the largest city in the Midwestern United States, is an example of some of the award-winning hostels available to budget travellers from HostelBookers.com.

The Hostel Concept

The hostel concept began in Europe when a German schoolteacher began taking his students in a coal-mining city out to the countryside on weekends. The idea quickly caught in Europe where traveling to nearby cities has always been both convenient and commonplace. Hostels were once mainly for young people who had limited funds and often imposed strict curfews and restrictions. However, in most places around the world, hostels are used by all age groups and only a few basic rules are imposed. These lodging facilities now offer the basics of shelter, a shower and reasonable security at a low price for anyone staying a short time in the location. Some hostels specialise in specific types of travellers. Staying in a hostel is different than lodging in a chain hotel. Few amenities are offered, but prices are low. You are likely to meet many fellow travellers from around the country or around the world.

Chicagos Best Hostels

Among the top hostels in the country are those in the city in Chicago. HI-Chicago on Congress Parkway is a state-of-the-art modern facility with female dorms, male dorms and private rooms with shared living quarters and bath. Bed linens and towels are provided, along with breakfast, Wi-Fi, lounge area, pool tables, hot showers, communal kitchen, laundry service, TV and game rooms. A free city tour is also included. Public transportation is nearby.

The Chicago Getaway Hostel on Arlington Place is another award-winning facility that offers travellers male dormitories, female dormitories and private rooms with either shared bathroom or private bathroom. Breakfast, linens, towels and luggage room are included in the low price. The facility also has secure lockers, Wi-Fi, communal kitchen, games room, bicycle hire, TV room and outside area.

Chicago Attractions

Chicago is a beautiful city set on shores of Lake Michigan. It has a rich architectural history that draws tourists from around the world. Chicagos museums are some of the best in the world and include the Field Museum, the Museum of Science and Industry, the Art Institute, DuSable Museum and a variety of other cultural exhibits. Chicagos Navy Pier was once a historic multi-purpose edifice that now houses shops, restaurants, boat tours and amusement rides.

Tapping into the real Ibiza | Heather on her travels

If you're new here and enjoy my blog, I'd love you to to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Ibiza is famous for its nightlife and clubbing experience but far there is more to enjoy on this beautiful island.Due to the citys architecture and the islands sea life, Ibiza is a balanced UNESCO World Heritage site boasting Mediterranean flavours, local markets, walking trails along the coast and chill beaches. Puerto San Miguel, Las Dalias and Sa Talaia are perfect places for family holidays.

St. Miquel de Balansat, Ibiza

To get a feel of the real Ibiza and enjoy your holiday I would recommend you get a car rental from Ibiza airport and drive along the coastal lines to Puerto San Miguel. Driving from the airport only takes around 40 minutes and you can enjoy some stunning scenery. If you also get a good offer on the car hire it works out cheaper than the ferry and is far more fun.

Once in San Miguel dont forget to visit The San Miguel de Balansat Church. The altar is beautiful and on Thursdays you can take part in the traditional Ball Pages dancing performed in the Churchs courtyard. Its only a 5 minute drive from the northern part of the village. If youre a fan of water sports, the villages beach offers a wide range of things to do; from surfing and water skiing, to banana boat rides, pedaloes and diving.

Tired of splashing in the water? You can go to the Port Balansat restaurant and taste the best fish menus on the island but for those of you who dont particularly enjoy fish, dont worry because Port Balansat is a pizzeria too. If youre staying in Puerto San Miguel then feel free to end the night with a Kilkinny Irish Cream at Caseys bar but if youre heading off in the car then its best to stick with an ice cold lemonade.

Las Dalias Hippymarket. Ibiza

Las Dalias market is not far from San Carlos about a half an hours journey. When you get there, I advise you to park half a mile from the hippy market for free. Its just as good in terms of service as the markets 3 car park. Once youre in, you can sense the local atmosphere with less of the tourist air and more authentic crafts on sale.

The restaurant is located within the Las Dalias market and expect your tastes to be blown away by the delicious and ingenious platters they have on the Mediterranean menu. Menu del Dia is Ibizas best value meal deal during the day and it consists of a 3 course meal plus wine. Locals recommend a Menu Del Dia over anything else when it comes to value for your money.

The Soul Bar always has some nice tunes playing or you can choose to chill in the Bedouin tent. On Saturdays there is also a games area packed with fun for the little ones as they get involved in creative workshops and become storytellers.
