Ibiza's Beaches

Ibiza's beautiful beaches with crystal clear, tranquil, turquoise watersare what brings many holiday makers to the island every summer. Ibiza's coastline is made up mostly of small "calas" with only a few long beaches such as Las Salinas, Es Cavallet or Playa den Bossa.

You will find varying types of beaches in Ibiza from fine sand to pebbles or rock like the mythic Punta Galera. Some beaches are developed for tourism where as other are completely virgin and wild. There is a lot of coastline to explore but rest assured you will find something just right for your holiday whether you want the action of water sports or just a quiet place to do Thai Chi.

Most Ibiza beaches are perfect for snorkeling where the Mediterranean marine life is easily observed through goggles, this is one of the great pleasures to experience in Ibiza so bring a mask and snorkel if you want to enjoy the underwater Ibiza.

Another one of the great features of many beaches in Ibiza are the "chiringuitos" or beach bars, where you can buy cool drink or eat "bocadillos" which are perfect for a lunch time snack. These chiringuitos will often play chilled music which is great while lying and enjoying the sun.

Talamanca beach is situated about 2,5 kilometres north of Ibiza Town. It is very sheltered and shallow sloping with fine sand, making it very safe for families. This beach is the largest in the municipality of Ibiza and lies in a sea inlet which protects it from most winds.

Cala Graci is situated at 1,5 kilometres from San Antonio, and sits between Cap Negret and Cap Blanc. It is right next to Cala Gracioneta which shares this small sea inlet.

Calo des Moro is a crowded beach mainly filled with the British and German youth that stay at the hotels and apartments surrounding the beach.

Famous for its full moons and hippy parties which accompany them, this beach is often alive with drums and an away-from-it-all holiday feeling.

San Miguel Port although a long way from the more visited areas of Ibiza is very well set up for the holiday tourist. The port is well protected from wind and offers many different activities, restaurants, hotels and bars.

Beach fun this New Year’s

The New Year is all about new beginnings and therefore Goa, where most of Mumbais bold and beautiful bade goodbye to the last sunset of the year, was also witness to omens of many overdue endings and some surprising new beginnings.

While most of the action unfolded at adventurous Baga, upmarket Vagator (the new venue for Sunburn and the favourite of Mumbais fashion frat), busy Calangute and laid-back Candolim (home to Mallyas Kingfisher Villa), it was the Ibiza-esque Ashwem beach that attracted lovers and celebrities looking to let their hair down away from prying eyes. Further north from the more well-known Goan beaches, Ashwems isolation made it a popular draw for European nudists. But thats another story.

Increasingly now, large stretches are being developed into beach clubs that are attracting even a lot of Indian celebrities with the promise of discreet fun. The newest addition on the strip, which already has Marbella Beach Club and the much-touted Bardo, is Sunset Ashram. Among the gang which partied the New Years Eve here were tennis ace Sania Mirza, south star Ram Charan, Adam Bedi, Varun Dhawan, Karan Thacker and Siddhant Kapoor.

While Sania had explained away hubby Shoaib Maliks absence during her birthday celebrations in November, interestingly there was no sign of him even for this one. For the cross border couple whove been working at what is increasingly a long-distance marriage, conspicuous absences at personal and social milestones point to something more than the vagaries of busy lives.

A rough ride: Shah rukh

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times for Shah Rukh Khan in 2013. While the Baadshah of Bollywood ended the year on a high note with his Chennai Express going on to garner over Rs 200 crore at the box office (some reports peg the number closer to Rs 300 crore in gross earnings), it was a year of much personal turmoil as well.

In May, he underwent a surgery his eighth for an injury he sustained while shooting for Chennai Express. No sooner had he recuperated from the procedure, that was performed at Mumbais Lilavati Hospital, that reports emerged of a new addition to the King Khans family. While Shah Rukh soon shared news about his and wife Gauris youngest child AbRam (born through surrogacy) with the world, he found himself embroiled in a fresh controversy after allegations that the Khans had undergone a pre-natal sex determination test later established as untrue.

Then, just when things were beginning to look bright again for the superstar there was a much-publicised hug with Salman Khan at an iftar party that was believed to have ended their long estrangement (although both stars camps said they were just being polite) he was stuck in a plagiarism row over a speech he made at the All India Management Association.

Of course, theres no balm like success, but even his triumph with Chennai Express was tinged by controversy. Heading into a box office clash with Balaji Telefilms Once Upon A Time in Mumbai 2, SRK and production house UTV reportedly struck a deal with Ekta Kapoor to push back OUATIM2s release by a week, in exchange for freeing up a few screening venues at that time. The OUATIM2 team alleged that the Chennai Express makers backtracked on the agreement, and caused huge losses for their film.

With all the controversies now in the past, heres hoping SRK has a Happy New Year to look forward to in 2014 in more ways than one.

Katrina Kaifs Bikini-gate

Resourceful fans have been leaking photos of Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor online for a long time now. But in late July, photos surfaced of a bikini-clad Katrina frolicking on the beaches of Ibiza with Ranbir. The images were widely published. While she has since claimed to be okay with it, Katrina didnt seem as sanguine when she wrote this open letter in August: I feel most upset, distressed and invaded at my pictures (being) published... The pictures were taken while I was on holiday by someone who has shot without permission and used the pictures for commercial gain.

Ranveer-Deepika link-up

She is yin to my yang, said Ranveer Singh of his Goliyon Ki Raasleela: Ram-Leela co-star Deepika Padukone. We are complementing energies.
