Former secretary of state Clinton to join Liberal convention in Ottawa next week – Toronto Star

OTTAWA - Former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, the first woman to run as a major party candidate for United States president, will headline the Liberal Party of Canadas national convention on May 5.

Clinton will join Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland for a fireside-style chat onstage on the second day of the three-day event in Ottawa.

Clinton rose to national prominence first during the presidential terms of her husband, Bill Clinton, in the 1990s, before her launching her own political career as a senator from New York.

She was the 67th secretary of state during the first term of president Barack Obama before securing the Democratic nomination for the 2016 presidential election, which she lost to Donald Trump.

In 2021, Clinton endorsed Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the Liberals, calling him her friend and wishing our progressive Canadian neighbours the best just three days before the vote.

Trudeau will speak at the convention May 4 but is expected to miss much of the event to travel to London for the coronation of King Charles on May 6.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published April 28, 2023.

Donald Trump Says He’s Retiring The Name ‘Crooked’ From Hillary Clinton: She’s ‘Out There Celebrating’ – msnNOW

OK Magazine mega

Donald Trump announced he may be acting nicer toward Hillary Clinton going forward.

During a campaign rally in Manchester, New Hampshire, the former president, 76, spoke about how he's giving President Joe Biden a new nickname.

"I will be retiring the name Crooked from Hillary Clinton," Trump said. "And Im going to give her a new name I dont know, like maybe Lovely Hillary or Beautiful Hillary but Im going to retire the name Crooked so that we can use the name for Joe Biden, because hell be known from now on as 'Crooked Joe Biden.'"

The businessman then joked that Clinton, 75, is probably "out there someplace celebrating" his decision.

Clinton and Trump faced off against one another in the 2016 election, but the latter ended up winning.

As OK! previously reported, Trump went on a rant about Biden just a few days after he announced he would be attempting to stay in the White House for another four years.

There has "never been anyone in the history of American politics so crooked or dishonest as Joe Biden," he continued. "It is Biden who poses the threat to democracy because he is grossly incompetent, he has no idea what he is doing and basically, he doesnt have a clue, and that is a very bad position to put our country in. Our country is in a very, very dangerous position right now. Very, very dangerous. We are led by a hopeless person, but we will win in 2024 and make America great again. We can do it. Its not too late. He wants to finish the job of destroying our country. But on that, he's actually very close he is very close to finishing the job."

He concluded, "Were going to beat them at the ballot box and were going to settle our unfinished business. It is unfinished."

Earlier this month, when asked if Biden is all there mentally, he replied, Look, I watch him just like you do. And I think its almost inappropriate for me to say it. I dont see how its possible. But theres something wrong.

Former President Donald Trump announced at a campaign event on Thursday that he is retiring the Crooked nickname for Hillary Clinton and will instead be using it going forward for President Joe Biden.

I will be retiring the name Crooked from Hillary Clinton and her moniker, and Im going to give her a new name, I dont know, like maybe Lovely Hillary or Beautiful Hillary, but Im going to retire the name Crooked because he will be known from now on as Crooked Joe Biden, Mr Trump said.

The watching crowd cheered and whistled. Mr Trump then speculated that Ms Clinton would be celebrating the announcement. He then launched a sizeable accusation at Mr Biden, the candidate who beat him handily in both the popular vote and the Electoral College in 2020.

Theres never been anyone in the history of American politics so crooked or dishonest as Joe Biden, and the press absoultely refuses to report it all that press back there because, frankly, theyre just as crooked as he is, and they are, Mr Trump said.

Mr Trump did not cite any evidence backing up his assertion that Mr Biden is the most corrupt actor in American political history.

Mr Trump himself is currently under federal indictment for allegedly facilitating a hush money payoff to an adult film star to stay quiet about an affair and help his election odds. Hes also under investigation for attempts to overturn the result of the 2020 in what experts have described as a failed self-coup.

Nevertheless, Mr Trump remains the frontrunner for the Republican nomination for president for a third campaign cycle in a row and he was eager to preview a potential rematch with Mr Biden in his remarks on Thursday.

The choice in this election is now between strength and weakness, between success and failure, between safety and anarchy, between peace and conflict and prosperity or catastrophe, Mr Trump said. We are living in a catastrophe.

It is not at all clear whether Mr Trumps forecasted efforts to define Mr Biden as corrupt will be successful. When Mr Trump began calling Ms Clinton crooked during the 2016 election, she was under a high-profile investigation over her email use as Secretary of State and had been relentlessly connected for years in the right-wing media to myriad scandals dating back to her husbands presidential administration.

But where Ms Clinton and former President Barack Obama often solicited strong feelings from voters, Mr Biden, a white man, has not been a lightning rod in the same way. Mr Biden announced earlier this week that he is officially running for re-election.

Those are no actors. Theyre President Joe Biden and former … – PolitiFact

President Joe Biden launched his reelection campaign April 25, but a Facebook video shared the day before would have people believe the man leading the U.S. for the last two years is an impostor.

"There is no Biden presidency," the April 24 video says. "The real Biden was executed for his crimes long ago along with Clinton."

The video claims Biden and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton were replaced with a rotating stable of actors, some of whom wear masks when out in public as the politicians.

"That's why Biden keeps referring to himself as the 'mask president,'" the video says.

This post was flagged as part of Facebooks efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Meta, which owns Facebook.)

The video provides no evidence to back its claims, but it does mention debunked QAnon conspiracy theories and the false claim the 2020 election was stolen.

Biden is clearly alive. On April 26, he hosted South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and his first lady Kim Keon Hee at a state dinner. On April 27, he appeared on the White House lawn for a public Take Our Kids To Work Day event.

Clinton was widely photographed with her husband, former-President Bill Clinton during an April 17 visit to Belfast, Northern Ireland to mark the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement, which ended 30 years of violent conflict there.

We rate this claim Pants on Fire!
