Community "witnesses" are claiming that an unarmed black barber was walking home from work when a Chicago PD officer shot him in the back as he was running away.

Other "witnesses" said that the man had a gun, but it was okay for the man to have a gun, because he had a concealed carry permit.

It's not clear if any of these witnesses actually witnessed the shooting.

Almost immediately after the shooting, a crowd gathered and started threatening to shoot the police officers.

At least one person started jumping on police cars.

According to police, officers on foot patrol in the 2000 block of East 71st Street stopped 37-year-old Harith Augustus around 5:30 p.m. Saturday to question him over a "bulge around his waistband" that suggested he was armed. After he broke free from the officers, police said, he "appeared to be reaching for a weapon," so they shot him.

In the video, several officers appear to arrive as Augustus interacts with officers already on the scene. Three officers then attempt to grab him by the wrists, but he breaks away. The edited video then zooms in on Augustus' waist, which appears to show a holster, gun and magazine of ammunition on his waist when his shirt briefly flies up. The video then slows, and appears to show Augustus running into the street before reaching toward his waistband. Thats when an officer opened fire.

The shooting happened around 5:30 p.m. at 2098 E. 71st St., and it took police about five hours to bring things under control. Some people screamed murderers as officers lined up against them. Some in the crowd held cameras up to take video, while others behind them threw rocks and glass bottles, some filled with urine.

As officers tried to contain the crowd, some of them dragged people to the ground or struck them with batons. Other officers held batons over their heads to ward off people yelling at them.

Sun-Times reporter said he was hit by officers who rushed a parking lot. I have my press badge on and identified myself as a reporter, but I got shoved to the ground by two cops who smacked my phone out of my hand, tweeted Nader Issa.

Four officers were injured from rocks and thrown bottles, he said. Four demonstrators were arrested. Two squad cars sustained minor damage.

Over the course of the next three hours, their chants included No justice, no peace, Aint no justice in this town, How you spell racist? CPD and Cops and crime go hand in hand. Legal observers with the National Lawyers Guild wore bright green baseball-style hats, hanging back and keeping an eye on the demonstration.

Witness Intimidation Criminals Go Free Skews the Crime Statistics Data - Colin Flaherty reviews and gives commentary on news with headlines "Two charged with threatening witnesses in St. Louis murder trial" and "No-show witness triggers dismissal of double-murder retrial in St. Louis"[links and excerpts below]https://fox2now.com/2018/06/26/two-charged-with-threatening-witnesses-in-st-louis-murder-trial/POSTED 1:36 PM, JUNE 26, 2018, BY STAFF WRITER, UPDATED AT 04:56PM, JUNE 26, 2018ST. LOUIS, MO Two men are charged with tampering with a victim and witness in a St. Louis city murder. Larry Strickland, 31 and Anthony D. Demyers, 33, face the witness intimidation charges in connection with the murder of Gentrail Wafford.

Court documents say that two gunmen identified as Terrance Williams and Brandon Cross shot and killed Gentrail Wafford during a robbery attempt in the 1400 block of Desoto on June 8, 2017. Wafford pulled out his gun to defend Roderick Silinzy, but was killed in the shootout.

Terrance Williams, 29, was charged in July 2017 for Gentrail Wafford's murder. The Circuit Attorney's Office says that investigators started to listen to his jail calls after the death of Roderick Silinzy. He was a cooperating witness in the murder case against Williams. He died from gunshot wounds after his car crashed into an abandoned building in May 2018.

Investigators learned that Williams was relaying the identities of cooperating witnesses in his murder trial to Strickland. They say he got that information through paperwork obtained by his co-defendant Brandon Cross. Strickland and Demyers allegedly worked together to dissuade Silinzy, and the two other witnesses from cooperating in the prosecution of Williams and Cross.

LOUIS A jury had been picked for the retrial this week of a St. Louis man in a 2013 double homicide. Instead, a judge Tuesday dismissed all counts after prosecutors asked for a continuance because they could not produce a key witness.

The dismissal of the case with prejudice means charges cannot be refiled against Freeman because of double jeopardy, Taaffe said, a standard in the U.S. Constitution that says no one should be tried twice for the same underlying offense.

Letter from Starbucks – White Girl Bleed a Lot, Knockout …

Letter from Starbucks

Colin,

I live in Connecticut not far from New Rochelle, New York which I visit frequently as I work with tenants at shopping center up the road about 1.5 miles from New Rochelle High School where there have been three stabbings in less than 10 days, including the January 10 murder of Valeree Megan Schwab who was a 16 year old student at the high school. Valeree was stabbed to death by one of a group of bullies apparently from the local high school.

Many years ago I lived in New Rochelle while I attended NYU law school. At the time, the mid-90s it was fairly safe, especially around Iona and to the north. There has been some negative creep over the past 20 years though the largely liberal infested area has maintained a front due to the fact that the neighbors take pride in and are very defensive about their neighborhoods. Private neighborhood associations have a lot of power in the city and rule the roost on many matters such as zoning. In one nearby neighborhood, the homeowners take maintenance of their property very seriously, I think they have a contest to see who can keep their property the most free of leaves throughout autumn. The ferals mainly keep to downtown and the area just to the north of I-95 and to the south of Iona.

In any case, I have a few stories about the area and the recent stabbings remind me in particular of one incident which occurred at the shopping center I mentioned. In advance, yes, this really happened as I heard the story from New Rochelle police, some people at the shopping center and I viewed some video of part of the crime.

One night a few years ago, a young black male burglar broke into a house to the north of Iona and lifted the usual cash, etc and left on foot. He went to North Avenue where he entered a car stopped at a light which was driven by a young woman and her female friend. He told them to drive to the shopping center where he asked them to stay put while he went into the Starbucks (yes, really).

When he came out with three coffees, one for him and two for the women, they were surprising gone. The New Rochelle Police contacted ownership and the tenants about this crime since they were looking for video footage which showed the perpetrator get out of the car. They had to find evidence to tie the suspect to the car.

They had asked Starbucks for their video but they refused, which is odd because I am certain Starbucks counsel knows the video could be subpoenaed; besides, who doesnt want to help the police.

Unlike the international purveyor of crushed coffee beans, my contact at the shopping center was more than happy to assist and provided the video which was used to send the bad guy to jail for 20 years since he was a third-striker. I looked at the video in disbelief as it was quite surreal to see the guy leave the vehicle and enter Starbucks, watch the car leave, and then see the guy come out of Starbucks with three coffees in hand, looking around in disbelief that his ride left.

While crime did not pay for this village idiot, the story ended well for everyone except for the homeowner whose chattel was stolen.

xx

Colin Flaherty: Death of a Cowboy, Shot by Fella He Knew …

Cowboy Murdered - Colin Flaherty show us news with the headline "Family of murdered Elgin man remember him as 'avid cowboy'"[link and excerpts below]By Caroline Hecker, ReporterPublished: Tuesday, April 17th 2018, 3:02 pm CDTUpdated: Tuesday, April 17th 2018, 3:17 pm CDTELGIN, SC (WIS) -The family of the man murdered in Elgin is remembering him as a competitive cowboy who befriended everyone he met.

But its that friendliness his father said led to his death. According to the Richland County Sheriffs Department, 23-year-old Adam Legrand was shot and killed by 21-year-old Kenneth Shirley at Legrands electrical shop on the evening of March 21.

Shirley then ran from police, shooting at them and eventually surrendered in nearby woods. Legrands father, Wayne Legrand, said his son was an avid cowboy who had been riding horses, mules, and bulls for years.

Miranda Hopkins, Legrands fiance, said the afternoon of March 21 was like any day. She had gone over to Legrands shop to help him clean out his truck when Shirley called.

He wanted to come hang out and we had just seen him the night before so we didnt think anything of it, Hopkins said.

She said Legrand and Shirley had been friends for about a year but didnt hang out together much.

We were all having a great time, just laughing and having fun and then he went to the store, she said. When he came back, it was like he was a completely different person.

She said when Shirley returned from the store he was quiet, playing on his phone and not saying much. All of a sudden, she said he pulled a gun on her and Legrand.

We were both so scared and didnt know what was going on so we just tried to usher him out the door while he had a gun in our face, she said. He went outside, got in his truck, shut the door and turned it on and while we were scared, we thought we were okay.

According to Hopkins, Shirley then opened his car door, jumped out and began shooting.

We turned around and ran back into the shop, trying to get around the truck so we could take cover, she said. We were holding hands and I felt him let go and I cant describe what it was like when I turned around.

Legrand had been shot and was falling to the floor.

As he was falling we made eye contact and I cant even describe it, but it was like I felt him leaving and I felt like he was taking a piece of me with him, she said. The family said the autopsy later revealed the fatal shot went through Legrands side, piercing his heart and exiting the front of his chest.

Hopkins said shortly after, the gunfire stopped and she ran to get help, not realizing she had been shot three times herself. She suffered a fractured scapula and trauma to her left leg, of which she said she still has numbness in.

Legrands father said when he found on Shirley was given a $100,000 bond.
