New Poll: Americans Divided Over Trump Syria Strike – Mediaite

While media and political elites spent the weekend mostly fawning over President Donald Trumps decision to launch an airstrike against Syria on Thursday, a new poll shows Americans as a whole are far more divided.

According to a Huffington Post/YouGov poll, a slim majority comprising 51%, said they supported the strike. Another 32% said they were opposed while 17% were uncertain.

The poll, however, also found that 46% of respondents believed the attack would be somewhat or very unlikely to have any meaningful impact in the conflict.

Trumps dramatic launch of 59 Tomahawk missiles against a Syrian airbase came in response to a brutal chemical attack that the countrys leader, Bashar al-Assad, unleashed against his own people. The attack was just the latest indication that Syrias 6-year-old Civil War is showing no signs of stopping. The missile strikesharply divided Donald Trumps own base of support, between the traditional GOP Neocon wing, and his more colorful, Pepe the Frog toting troll activists.

Report: Ann Coulter is dating Jimmie Walker from 'Good Times'

The say love works in mysterious ways. The cliche rang true in a recent interview with Norman Lear where he revealed two unlikely people may be dating each other.

The television writer and producer told Entertainment Weekly that Jimmie Walker - - more commonly known as J.J. from the 1970's hit "Good Times" - - is dating conservative commentator Ann Coulter.

"I love him; he's a wonderful guy, but I'll tell you something about him that'll astound you: he dates Ann Coulter," Lear told the magazine.

Coulter, 55, has been asked in the past if she's dating Walker, 69, and brushed them off in a Huffington Post interview.

Ann Coulter responds to reports she dates ‘Good Times’ actor Jimmie Walker: ‘We’re great friends’ – AOL

Are they are aren't they? According to Ann Coulter herself, it's a "no" -- but a gentle one.

The controversial conservative has officially responded to rumors that she's in a longtime relationship with Jimmie Walker, who rose to fame in the 1970s playing JJ on "Good Times."

"This rumor spreads every now and then, but it's never been true," she told Page Six, adding, "We're great friends. He's hilarious and a Republican. Now, that's news!"

The denial of a romance comes a few days after Norman Lear, who produced "Good Times," revealed he once went on a dinner date with the supposed couple.

"I love him; he's a wonderful guy, but I'll tell you something about him that'll astound you: He dates Ann Coulter," Lear, 94, told Entertainment Weekly. He described Coulter as "a dreamy, delicious, sweet person" -- which undoubtedly surprised both fans and advocates of Coulter. The hard-right pundit is known for being abrasive and sometimes outright offensive.

Media Figures Who Typically Sympathize With Trump Express Outrage Over Syria Strikes – Huffington Post

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter who last month described President Donald Trump as emperor god during an appearance on Fox News expressed alarm on Friday about the presidents decision to respond to a chemical attack in Syria by launching a missile strikeagainst the country.

Coulter also retweeted several of Trumps past commentsopposing U.S.intervention in the six-year civil war, a stance he took as both a businessmanandpresidential candidate.

What appears to frustrate Coulter, and other pro-Trump commentators, is that the decision to launch missiles into Syria is a departure from the presidents statedAmerica First pledge. Some have criticized the move as being in line with the views of hawkish Republicans who have long sought intervention and didnt support Trumps candidacy.

Trump falsely claimed throughout the 2016 election that he was a vocal opponent of the Iraq War. This position set him apart from both pro-war Republicans running against him in the primary and from Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, who voted for the intervention as a U.S. senator. White House chief strategist Steve Bannon, who railed against theglobalist agenda and neoconservative-supported military intervention while leading Breitbart News, reinforced Trumps America First strategy in the waning months of the campaign.

Im not, and I dont want to be, the president of the world, Trump said Tuesday. Im the president of the United States. And from now on, its going to be America first.

Conservative radio host Laura Ingraham, a Trump supporter and early candidate for White House press secretary, warnedthat the president should start worrying when neocons and establishment media start praising him.

Several far-right figures similarly voiced frustration.

In a marathon livestreamthat included other pro-Trump figures, blogger Mike Cernovich spoke out against the air strikes.

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway has praised Cernovich, and Donald Trump Jr. said on Tuesday that he deserved a Pulitzer Prizefor his report on former national security adviserSusan Rice unmaskingTrump associates picked up in U.S. surveillance procedures.

So Cernovichs criticism was striking as was that of Paul Joseph Watson, a writer for the pro-Trump conspiracy site InfoWars.

Bill Kristol, the neoconservative Weekly Standard editor who was one of the biggest boosters of the Iraq War, tweeted in support of the strikes. His stance inspired Milo Yiannopoulos, the controversial former Breitbart News editor who affectionately has called Trump daddy, to respond on Facebook.

All these neocons want is war and money, money and war, he wrote.

Breitbart News

Breitbart News, which carries great influence in the White House, recently came out forcefully against the failed Republican health care bill that Trump supported. However, the site largelylaid the blame on House Speaker Paul Ryan, a longtime establishment target of the nationalist site.

As of Friday morning, Breitbart hadnt come out strongly against the strikes. But its lead story highlighted a development that has frustrated pro-Trump voices: The decision to strike Syria iswinning praise from frequently pro-interventionist senators like John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.).

There is a way back into the European Union just ask the Brexiteers how – The Independent

As those of us who desperately wanted Britain to remain in the European Union lick our wounds, nowis not the time to give up. The Brexiteers, ungracious in victory, may be attempting to silence opposition to the coming divorce, but we must not let that happen.

Opposition to our impending departure from the EU cannot just take the form of angry marches and flagwaving, however. That will make absolutely no difference, not least because mass rallies objecting to a mass vote which we lost look quite ridiculous. No; we must accept where we are, and we mustdig in.

There are still millions of Britons that would like to see the UK remain as a fully signed-up member of the EU, but none of them can stop the Article 50 process now that it has begun. They must, instead, accept that any campaign about Britain and its EU membership will now be about rejoining the union in the future. This is the time to take stock, to plan, and to recommit to the cause.

There is a precedent for such an approach giving birth to unimaginable success. That precedent was here in the UK, and it shows what can be achieved with a never-say-die approach, a willingness to be mocked, and a commitment to the political long-game.

I speak fully aware of the irony of the campaign for Britain to leave the European Union.

Brexit talks: PM welcomes Tusk to Downing Street

For many, many years the idea of Little Old Blighty walking away from Brussels was considered easily as lunatic as a campaign for us to rejoin might seem in 2017. It was a fringe view; it was eccentric.

To realise how far the Brexit rump has come, take a moment to remember Jimmy Goldsmith's Referendum Party, which stood for election in 1997. They were so mad you half expected Louis Theroux to pop up and make a documentary about them. But whos laughing now?

The first clue, of three, in how to rebuild the pro-EU movement lies exactly with the Referendum Party and its bastard child, Ukip. These were one-issue obsessives who could muster committed campaigners, keep the dream alive and ultimately shift the terms of political debate and of public perception of what was possible. The more you repeat something, the more people get used to the idea.

Ukip acted as the provisional wing of the Eurosceptics. They made the Tory Brexiteers seem relatively sensible by comparison.

When it came to the crunch in 2016, where was the provisional wing of the Remain campaign, the equivalent of Leave.EU? Possibly somewhere among the federalists of the Liberal Democrats, but it was silent. Where it did emerge,it seemed embarrassed by its own opinions; possibly because of the success of Ukip in moving the conversation, it became a case of courting ridicule to state an emotional case for enthusiastic membership of the EU.

Second, the Brexiteers had vision. It might not seem like it to the ears of a Europhile, but the Eurosceptics presented an idea of a new, refreshed Britain, while the Remainers stuck endlessly to George Osbornes tired script about economic risk. You, the Independent reader, might not like the idea of return to Little England, but for many this was an idea worth voting for as were taking back control, the Commonwealth free trade zone and an extra 350m a week for the NHS.

What would be vision for a Britain fully engaged in the EU look like? Nobody has even contemplated making that case since Tony Blair and Pater Mandelson tried to sell cafculture to the country in the aftermath of their early landslides.

But neither of those points is as significant as the last lesson from the Brexiteers, and that's patience: the willingness to play the long game.

There are Ukip activists and Conservatives who have been campaigning pretty much full time for Brexit since before the Maastricht rebellions of 1992. The likes of Tory MEP Daniel Hannan appeared not to mind being seen as a bonkers ideologist at the outset, such was their confidence that thismoment would finally arrive. He was almost blindly confident that his time, and the time of his fellow travellers, would come. When nobody believed him, he strode on with absolute confidence. Nigel Farage, John Redwood and the rest were exactly the same.

And then, in 2016, it finally happened. A Tory-led coalition staring over its shoulder at surging Ukip, a horrific civil war in Syria driving vast waves of immigration across Europe, the bite of globalisation's nastier side effects and another euro crisis all combined into a perfect storm. All Hannan's ships had come in at once and he and his colleagues were ready to take full advantage.

When the Europhile's perfect storm will arrive is hard to predict, but it will come. We must be ready in 2020, or 2050. We must be patient. We must be organised. We must set up a provisional wing of the argument. And we must be willing to be ridiculed.

We might even ask Louis Theroux to pop by to follow us around with his film crew.
