Alt-right, alt-right, alt-right: Matthew McConaughey says give Trump a chance – National Post

There seems to be an ever-growing list of celebrities who have publicly denounced President Donald Trump (including George Clooney, Robert De Niro and Meryl Streep), but there are also several members of the entertainment industry who have shown support for the U.S. Commander-In-Chief.

During an interview with the BBCin London for his new movie Gold, Matthew McConaughey was posed the following question: Everysingle American actor or arty type who comes to Londondumps on Trump, so should Americagive the guy a break?

Well, they dont have much of a choice, McConaughey said. Hes our president. And its very dynamic and as divisive of an inauguration and time that weve ever had. At the same time, its time for us to embrace, shake hands with this fact, and be constructive with him over the next four years. So, even those who most strongly may disagree with his principles or things hes said and done which is another thing, well see what he does compared to what he had said no matter how much you even disagreed along the way, its time to think about how constructive can you be. Because hes our president for the next four years. At least.

The interview aired Sunday after Trump made international waves by signing an executive order to ban immigrants from seven Muslim-majority countries.

Last month, Nicole Kidman made similar commentsto the BBC when she saidhes now elected, and we as a country need to support whoever is the president because thats what the countrys based on.

She latersaid that her comments were meant in reference tothe democratic process, and not Trump.

Wikipedia Adds Jim Fouts To Description Of ‘Shaggy Defense’ Alongside R. Kelly. – CBS Local

Warren Mayor Jim Fouts (credit: City of Warren)

WARREN (CBS Detroit) What do controversial R&B artist R. Kelly and septuagenarian Warren Mayor Jim Fouts have in common?

Theyre on the same wikipedia page.

Information about Fouts has been added to a wikipedia page describing the Shaggy defense, which is a concept based on the classic reggae and R&B song hip It Wasnt Me.

The song captures a man caught red handed cheating on his girlfriend. Refresh your memory here.

The lyrics include she caught me on the counter (It wasnt me) Saw me bangin on the sofa (It wasnt me),Saw me kissin on the sofa (It wasnt me), I even had her in the shower (It wasnt me), She even caught me on camera (It wasnt me).

Following the popularity of the song, getting caught on tape in the act of something illegal or unethical, and then denying it was you, is known as the Shaggy defense.

And now its Wikipedia official. The Wikipedia page lists several Shaggy defense use cases, including R. Kelly, who was allegedly captured on video having sex with an underage girl and successfully denied in court that it was him.

The newest entry includes Fouts. Wikipedia says this about Fouts and the Shaggy defense:

The strategy was again used and cited in 2017 when James R. Fouts, the mayor of the Detroitsuburb of Warren, Michigan, faced controversy after multiple audio recordings alleged to be of him mocking African Americans, women, and the mentally challenged were released to the press. Fouts responded to the tapes release by repeatedly stating that the voice on the tapes is not his, earning him widespread mockery and calls to resign his office.

Despite the outcry, Fouts repeatedly denied it was his voice on the tapeheardmocking women, the mentally disabled, and black people. Council members have said they cant force him to resign, and he has said that he will not resign.

Craigslist founder Craig Newmark: To ensure Wikipedias vitality, people of good will need to work together to prevent trolling, harassment and cyber-bullying from interfering with the common good

Craig Newmark of eponymous website Craigslist wants to eradicate trolling and other forms of toxic behaviour on Wikipedia.

With a donation of $500,000, Newmark is the initial seed funder for a new initiative by the Wikimedia Foundation to address harassment and uncivil conduct on the collaborative online encyclopaedia.

The non-profit organisation, Wikimedia Foundation, reports that harassment on Wikipedia has been shown to reduce participation with over 50 per cent of Wikipedia contributors who had been victims of such online abuse stating that they withdrew from the site as a result.

To ensure Wikipedias vitality, people of good will need to work together to prevent trolling, harassment and cyber-bullying from interfering with the common good, said Newmark.

The funding will drive what is being called a community health initiative to develop more and better tools for identifying, reporting and ridding the site of abusive content.

Donald Trump’s new attorney general has already had his Wikipedia page vandalised – The indy100

Picture: Wikipedia/Mark Wilson/Getty Images

On Monday night President Donald Trump dismissed Sally Yates as acting attorney general, after she told justice department lawyers not to defend his executive order banning immigration from sevenMuslim countries.

He appointed Dana Boenta, the Unites States attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, to be acting attorney general.

Mr Boente has worked for the Justice Department since 1984 under both Republican and Democratic administrations.

In October 2015 he was nominated by President Barack Obama to be the United States attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, and was later confirmed by the Senate.

He told the Washington Post, when asked whether he would defend the president's executive order against a lawsuit:

I was enforcing it this afternoon.

Our career department employees were defending the action in court, and I expect thats what theyll do tomorrow, appropriately and properly.

All as it should be.

Dana James Boente (born February 7, 1954) is the newest sock puppet for the Trump administration.

Some mischievous anonymous editor had their way with the Wikipedia page.

The error was swiftly corrected, but you can see an old version of the article, here.

Thank goodness for speedy Wikipedia editors.

MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING: Yale faces Harvard in final dual meet – Yale Daily News (blog)

Harry Browne Feb 02, 2017

Staff Reporter

After enduring a grueling season that began more than three months ago, the Yale mens swimming and diving team prepares for its final dual meet before the Ivy League championships.

The Bulldogs enter at 91 in dual meets this year, their only blemish a 185168 defeat at Penn State. However, the Elis close their regular season this Saturday at home against the far superior Crimson, which stands unconquered at 90 and boasts one of the deepest, most talented squads in the nation.

Were excited, Jonathan Rutter 18 said. On paper, Harvard is the best team in the league, but racing this team at this time of the year in this pool means that anything can happen. Thats where the energy is coming from.

Yale is now at the tail end of a solid season, full of impressive performances from several swimmers, particularly out of the class of 2018. Aaron Greenberg 18 is ranked 35th in the nation in the 50-yard freestyle with a top time of 19.75 seconds, which he swam in November against Brown and UMass. Kei Hyogo 18, meanwhile, stands at 15th in the 1000-yard freestyle after finishing in 9:02.47 against Columbia. The Bulldogs are also bolstered by Rutter, who was named CollegeSwimming.com Ivy League Swimmer of the Week in November, and Shawn Nee 18, who has dominated backstroke events in a season that included victories in both the 100- and 200-yard backstrokes against Penn State.

However, the Crimson is undoubtedly one of the most impressive teams in the country. Harvard is currently ranked No. 23 in the latest College Swimming Coaches Association of America poll and has been featured in each top-25 poll since Dec. 6. Moreover, the Crimson is ranked ahead of Virginia Tech, which scored 1287 points to Yales 466.5 at the H2Okie Invitational last November. Harvards domination stems predominantly from its superior depth: Harvard claims 11 seniors to the Bulldogs seven and a roster that has three more athletes overall. If the numbers were not enough, the Crimson can supplement with sheer talent, as the team has at least one swimmer ranked in the top 50 nationwide in each freestyle event as well as the 200-yard backstroke.

Harvards got [11] guys in their senior class this year, head coach Tim Wise said. [In younger classes], their numbers have been like ours, around eight guys. What happens is, if were getting the same number of kids, the league is exponentially more competitive today than it was five and 10 years ago. Now that were all operating within the same parameters, were all getting good swimmers. Competition breeds competition.

In recent history, the annual meet has gone squarely to Harvard. Not since 1992 have the Bulldogs emerged victorious, when they blasted the Crimson 148.593.5. Since then, Harvard has made short work of the Elis, including a 26390 shellacking last year in Princeton.

This weekends meet originally would have featured the Tigers as well; Harvard, Yale, and Princeton have swum a tri-meet together each season since 1993. However, Princetons swim team was suspended for the remainder of its season in December over misogynistic and racist inter-team messages discovered by the administration. Even without one of their two main rivals, Bulldog swimmers said they remain excited for the annual clash with Harvard.

Im trying to keep myself calm by treating this meet like an ordinary dual meet, but the stress of this meet being the last obstacle between our team and an undefeated Ivy dual meet season keeps creeping in, Derek Kao 18 said. In the end, it will come down to taking this stress, converting it into excitement and swimming faster than ever.

Competition will take place at the Kiphuth Exhibition pool on Friday and Saturday. Fridays session will commence at 6 p.m. and Saturdays at 12 p.m.
