Two Cities: Ablution and Absolution

WIESBADEN, Germany. Just as dramatic as our longest bridge, where an ebun (egg) in Pampanga crosses the bridge to become ibon (bird) in Bulacan, five bridges crossing the Rhine link Wiesbaden (capital of Hesse) and Mainz (capital of Rhineland-Palatinate).

CUIUS REGIO, EIUS RELIGIO. Wiesbaden is Protestant; Mainz in Rhineland-Palatinate, is Catholic. Bad in German isnt the opposite of good; the three-letter word stands for baths or spas.

There are 79 spas in Germany, most of which have the bad appellation, vix., Bad Neuenhar-Ahrweiler, Bad Godesberg, Bad Homburg, Badeweiler, Badwildheim, Bad Hausholzen Baden-Baden. Wiesbaden is famous for its spa and casino.

Germans love their spa, a legacy of Imperial Rome. The thermal treat is even covered by medical insurance (if prescribed by your friendly physician)and popular spas have an adjunct casino a favorite combination of rejuvenation and recreation.

At Wiesbadens Rheingau Wine Festival (August 9-18, 2013), winegrowers set up 118 booths of newly pressed, superior, as well as bubbly sparkling wines at the square of the Market Church (Marktkirche). Big bands and show acts provided entertainment.
