euromicron's subsidiary telent tasked with creating a multimedia network with MPLS technology for the autobahn telecommunications network in Lower Saxony

Backnang, January 29th, 2014 - telent GmbH - a euromicron Group company - is to establish a multimedia network for the autobahn telecommunications network in Lower Saxony. telent will deploy Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) technology, as well as the Privus Manager(R) network management system. 70 locations are to be integrated in the new telecommunications network by the end of 2014.

telent GmbH has been awarded the order for expanding the broadband telecommunications network of the Lower Saxony State Authority for Road Construction and Transport and will be in charge of project management, project planning, as well as setting up and integrating the network infrastructure and planning the transmission paths. The Backnang-based company will also be responsible for round-the-clock support (24/7) and will deliver a turnkey transmission network to the Lower Saxony State Authority for Road Construction and Transport at the end of the project.

Multimedia network with MPLS technology The increase in relevant autobahn data, for example as part of the surveillance of road tunnels, additional use of the hard shoulder, emergency calls and traffic management systems, necessitates a comprehensive expansion of the existing telecommunications infrastructure. telent is using high-performance MPLS technology for broadband expansion. MPLS combines the high availability and flexibility of IP networks with the security of time division multiplexing (TDM) transmission technology, thereby increasing the efficiency and performance of wide area networks. The MPLS network will be implemented using latest-generation equipment.

Migration of the existing telecommunications infrastructure 'The autobahn network in Lower Saxony is a technically demanding challenge for telent on account of its constellation,' says Robert Blum, Managing Director of telent GmbH. The telecommunications network consists of different physical transmission links (fiber optics and copper). Up to now data transmission has been carried out using SDH and PDH technology, which needs to be expanded due to the constantly growing data volume.

telent is to set up a standardized MPLS platform for integrating the existing technology in the network and for transporting new IP services. A highly secure VPN must be planned for signal throughput so as to ensure the reliability of the transmission services to be supported. This involves a technological step in the direction of routed networks, i.e. the existing TDM technology will be fully integrated and migrated.

'In telent we have found an expert that provides comprehensive integration solutions from a single source and also offers many years of experience in planning and, in particular, coordinating and handling such projects,' says Mr. Sauer, the responsible specialist engineer from the Lower Saxony State Authority for Road Construction and Transport. 'The new transmission network represents a flexible and future-oriented solution for us, as it combines investment protection for the existing network with the cost-effectiveness of the new network,' adds Mr. Sauer. All locations are to be integrated in the state-of-the-art telecommunications network by the end of 2014.
