COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS: Sip some tea to celebrate Leominster's century as a city

By Cheryl A. Cuddahy

Ladies, grab your springtime bonnets and get ready for the Commemorative Spring Tea -- celebrating Leominster's 100 years as a city -- on March 28 at Pilgrim Congregational Church, 26 West St.

Beginning at 1 p.m., Mayor Dean Mazzarella will welcome ladies to this springtime afternoon filled with sweets, ambiance and history.

A luscious three-course carte du jour will be served as you relax and enjoy the setting of this lovely afternoon.

This old-fashioned tea will feature scrumptious scones served on beautiful china, warming teas served throughout the afternoon, and a variety of delicious tea sandwiches.

To add to this special celebration of Leominster, women will be dressed in period clothing, and musical entertainment will fill the backdrop of this elegant occasion.

"There seems to be a lost art of hosting a tea party," said Peggy Christoforo, a member of the Commemorative Spring Tea Committee.

So a committee was formed, composed of Christoforo, Karen McNall, Joyce Gosselin, Corrine Thibodeau and Colleen Faris, and they thought it would be a great idea to celebrate Leominster and spring with an old-fashioned tea.

"The committee thought to ask students from CTEi to help with this event, and the way they have taken over is incredible," said Colleen.

One student, Guilherme "Guigo" Salles, has adopted the Commemorative Tea as his senior project.
