Social networking sites aid home businesses

Home-based business owners have found it more successful to promote their businesses through social media rather than going door-to-door, or spending on advertising costs. Social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and others are free to use and there is more interaction among customers and the business, according to local home-based business owners. Facebook is helpful for promoting our products from home, says Mehrosh Amir, a Pakistani housewife who sells Pakistani and Indian ethnic wear from her home. It helps all working women that cannot work outside with men and it provides easy access to all kinds of customers from different nations. Amir promotes her products through her Facebook page called Mahroshs Boutique. It is an easy way to cheap and fast publicity for our products. Amir says that in Pakistan, many women run home-based businesses through the help of Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest, and are very successful. She adds that she has been using Facebook to promote her products for over several months now and is satisfied with the sales. I started from my circle of friends and relatives. When I observed that I could do better on Facebook, I started to use it to promote my products, says Amir. Many businesses promoting their products through social networking sites are aware that it is the fastest platform to spread the word. If something is trending, it goes around faster on the Internet than by word of mouth, says Rayan Khan, a social media expert. Using social media for businesses is a must. In todays world, even the most infamous store can get publicity if it considers creating a Facebook page or a Pinterest profile to promote their products. Khan adds that Facebook users are likely to enjoy content sharing. For example, if they find something interesting, they either share it on their timelines or create more interaction on the post, eventually gathering a lot of others to indulge in the very same post. Companies need to promote their products through social networking sites by building trust among their target audiences, and concern would then be created and extended effortlessly, says Khan. On the other hand, there are others who do home businesses and are not aware of or dont know how to promote their products online, unless they hire extra help from outside. Sahar Marwan is another keen home business owner. She produces homemade goodies from cupcakes to handmade quilts and cushions. I have been running this business for almost a year now and my customers are just my friends and friends of friends. Marwan says that word about her business goes from mouth to mouth and she gets regular customers and is satisfied. When asked about promoting her products online, Marwan states than she is technically challenged and doesnt have any idea of how the computer works. I am in my fifties and I do this business all by myself to keep me occupied.
