Pinoy comedy video wins abroad

The comedy video JunJun: The Social Network Savvy Beggar. Episode 1 Hunger came out on top of the first-ever America Meet World comedy video contest.

Filipino doctor Nathaniel Cruz created and starred in the social networking satire that got the most votes in the video competition designed to find the best comedy the world has to offer, and help international comedians showcase their work in the US. It outclassed 14 other finalists, trimmed down from the initial 138 videos from 21 different countries.

JunJun: The Social Network Savvy Beggar. Episode 1 Hunger gave a straightforward, comedic knock to the societys growing dependence to social networking, particularly the attention and superficial satisfaction it offers. It is narrated by Cruz in the most unlikely persona, the vagrant Junjun.

Its official. WE FINALLY WON IT FOR THE PHILIPPINES! he confirmed in his Facebook account on Wednesday.

Cruz, at first, said, Akala ko sisiw na to sa dami ba naman ng Pinoy sa social media, sure win na to. Hindi pala. He added that he had a hard time selling his humor.

Ilang beses din nag sink in ang frustration sakin specially for the most part of the contest since I was trailing 2 different countries.

That said, Buti nalang, it turned out to be just another case of FILIPINO TIME because you guys showed up at the very last minute when I badly needed your support.

He also thanked those who voted, viewed and shared his creation, as well as the media entities that featured the story, which according to him gave that much-needed boost.

To all Pinoys (even some foreigners) here and all over the world, this is your win.

Cruz won a trip to New York City to meet the award-winning executives of the US comedy news program The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
