Down to Chill, an innovative social networking app created by Adam Elkassas and Arjun Jain, officially launched in the iTunes app store and Android Google Play Store this week. Down to Chill serves as a tool for determining which Facebook friends are available to meet up, and encourages users to use social media as a gateway to in-person socialization.

I spent much of my college years hanging out with the same two friends simply because I never knew who was available, or what was happening around town," said Adam Elkassas, Co-Founder of Down to Chill. "We created this app in hopes to remove people from their computers and bring them together within their networks."

Down to Chill uses a swiping and matching mechanism to see which friends are free, and what is going on in the area. The app answers the question of whos down and whats up by allowing the user to swipe through their list of Facebook friends to explore who is available to meet up, and browse the local hashtag feed to see what there is to do in the area. Down to Chill also accommodates businesses by allowing them to post in local hashtag groups to provide relevant advertisements that help show users what is going on in their city.

Current social media does not make people more social, in fact we believe it could make them less social," said Elkassas. "We feel modern social networks are getting very cluttered and forcing people to maintain an online social image, while many struggle to connect within their social networks."

In addition to its host of ground-breaking features, Down the Chill allows users to post in local groups called hashtags, which can be created and followed to see what people are talking about in their city at any given time; making friendly get-togethers easier than ever to plan.

Down to Chill is available now for free in the iTunes App Store and Google Play Store.

About: Down to Chill was founded in the summer of 2014 by twenty-one year olds, Adam Elkassas, Arjun Jain, and Michael Powell. Adam and Arjun were both on a leave of absence from UPenn's Jerome Fisher Program in Management & Technology, where they were rising juniors studying Computer Science, Finance, and Statistics. Down to Chill app spurred from the notion that it was very difficult to find out who was on campus and down to chill during their free time in the summer, despite the fact that everyone had 1000s of so-called Facebook friends." Adam, Arjun, and Michael are relocating to San Francisco to work out of Famo.us Headquarters, starting in April, after bootstrapping at Adams home in DuBois, PA for the first half of the year.
