The risks associated with new forms of communication, such as social media and IM traffic, are no different than those associated with the collection and preservation of traditional email messages. As courts and regulatory bodies have ramped up sanctions related to electronic communications, organizations need to include social media and instant messaging when devising their information governance strategies.
