Prominent Republican aiding indicted Rep. Grimm

Brooklyns most prominent Republican is coming to the aid of indicted Rep. Michael Grimm.

State Sen. Martin Golden is hosting a fund-raiser Sept. 18 to help re-elect Grimm, who is defending himself against federal tax evasion charges.

Grimms district takes in south Brooklyn as well as Staten Island and overlaps with Goldens senatorial district. That means both incumbents, who have the backing of the Conservative Party as well as the GOP, will appear on the same ballot lines this fall.

While some Republicans and donors have distanced themselves from the embattled GOP congressman, Golden told supporters hes all in to re-elect Grimm to help beat back the very liberal policies of the Obama administration.

Goldens Dear Friends letter does not explicitly mention Grimms legal problems.

Liberal policies have spelled failure. So their tactic is to change the subject, talk about something else, avoid the real issue of an America on the wrong track. I believe the voters of our district are much too savvy to fall for any such trickery. However, they also know that such trickery does have to be countered, and that doing so does cost money, he said.

Thats why Ill be holding a fund-raising event for Congressman Grimm, he said of the reception that will be held at Mama Roaso Cuciana Italiana in Borough Park. Donors are asked to cough up $150 to $500.

Grimm faces a tough challenge from former Democratic City Councilman Domenic Recchia.

Goldens Democratic challenger, James Kemmerer, blasted the senator for helping Grimm.

Marty Golden likes to bring up President Obama who he perceives as unpopular in the district. But if you want true guilt by association look no further than Golden who is actively attaching himself to indicted-on-twenty-counts Grimm. Marty is parading him around not in a perp walk like he deserves but like hes the second coming of Fiorello LaGuardia, Kemmerer said.
