Britain continued to bask in gloriously sunny temperatures yesterday, as forecasters predicted that the long-overdue summery spell is set to continue throughout the weekend in the UK.

After Tuesday's temperatures of almost 27C in parts of England set the standard for the hottest day of the year, the mercury rose again as thousands flocked to beaches, parks and gardens.

The record for the warmest day of 2012 was again smashed in, of all places, Scotland, as residents in Aviemore, Invernesshire enjoyed a tropical heat of 26.9C.

The hottest temperature in the UK posted north of the border made Aviemore hotter than Ibiza yesterday, as temperatures held firm.

Hottest place in the UK: Children play in Loch Morlich, near, Aviemore, where temperatures reached 26.9C yesterday

Cooling down: Rhianna Mallia, 18 and Louise Dougherty, 21, sit in the sun in Aviemore - which registered the hottest temperature in the UK in 2012

Partying with Pride: This year’s DC Black Pride nightlife returns in a big way

Ashanti will perform at Fur Nightclub this Friday, May 25, as part of a ''mega party'' for DC Black Pride. It's purportedly the R&B singer's first headlining gig at a gay event. And to think that's only one of nearly a dozen official nightlife parties this weekend.

This year's DC Black Pride nightlife, in other words, returns in a big way.

Ashanti

''For the past couple years, DC Black Pride segmented and separated,'' says Kenya Hutton, an executive board member for the organization. ''We're trying to bring everyone back together to have one DC Black Pride instead of three or four as in previous years. DC Black Pride, as an organization has worked really hard in offering a substantial weekend, and in trying to bring everyone in to work and party together.''

The DC Black Pride entity has officially partnered this year with Omega Entertainment for most of the nightlife events. The local men's promoting powerhouse, which has put on its own Chocolate City Pride the last three years, has worked with DC Black Pride to turn many of Washington's best and biggest nightclubs, usually straight, gay for pay. It's also offering a twist on the typical pool party with the Island Inferno party Sunday night, May 27, at Cameron Run's Great Waves Water Park in Alexandria.

Omega Entertainment kicks off the first of three parties on Thursday, May 24, at Northeast's Layla Lounge with a Genesis party. The swanky venue will also play host to Saturday night's The Manhunt with what Omega bills as ''a surprise celebrity performance'' at 2 a.m. and Monday night's closing party Apocalypse.

A few blocks west, Northeast's Ibiza Nightclub plays host to a late-afternoon party on its rooftop Saturday, May 26. Later that night, starting at 10 p.m., DC Black Pride throws its own Soul Train Dance Party with local legend DJ Mandrill at the host hotel, the Hyatt Regency Capitol Hill. And in the wee hours of that night or really Sunday morning Northeast's lesbian-owned Lace Nightclub offers Omega's After Party, appropriately called Insomniac, complete with breakfast buffet.

After the party Sunday afternoon at the Virginia waterpark, Love Nightclub plays host to one of the weekend's biggest events, called Klimax, with a performance by R&B singer Teairra Mari and a $5,000 cash drop.

Sunday afternoon also ushers in the free 4th Annual ULIVE Memorial Day BBQ in Anacostia's River Terrace Park, geared specifically for women.

Omega Entertainment bills its parties as ''the most affordable good time on Earth.'' Though the major evening parties cost $45 each, a limited number of all-access passes are available for just $90.

The Paperboy the buzz of Cannes

Nicole Kidman's new film, The Paperboy, has premiered at the Cannes Film Festival to rave reviews.

But, one key scene is the talk of the town.

The sight of Nicole Kidman urinating on her co-star Zac Efron had critics abuzz at this year's Cannes festival.

But the scene isn't as racy as you might expect.

Kidman's Charlotte urinates down on Efron's excitable teen after he gets stung on the face by a jellyfish.

Fans of the original novel, from which the film has been adapted, will note a change of plot.

In the original Peter Dexter novel, Efron's Jack is treated by a group of nursing students but in the film Kidman chases the nurses away: 'If anyone is going to piss on that boy, it's going to be me,' she says.

Kidman, who is in Cannes with her husband Keith Urban, said of the role: 'Lee said to me, 'Look we've got no money, you're going to have to do your own hair and make-up.' So I went into my bathroom, and I got out the fake tan and I put on lashes, and I got out a hairpiece thing it was platinum.

'I put it all on and took a photo and texted it to Lee, in all kinds of different provocative positions. What he sent back, which I cannot say, but it was like 'Thumbs-up!'

'And that's how it started to percolate.'

Then & Now: Catch 22

In the early '90s, alternative rock was exploding overground, with the rave scene coming up right behind it. This beloved Adelaide Street club bridged these two movements together in a legitimate, licensed space.

Club: Catch 22 Niteclub, 379 Adelaide W.

Years in operation: 1989-1997

History: While a five-year-lifespan tends to be a decent run for nightclubs in this city, some strike a nerve and manage to go it longer, thanks to an ever-evolving community of supporters. Catch 22 was such a venue.

Located on Adelaide near the corner of Spadina, Catch was slightly off the beaten path as it lay on the edges of the then-developing club district and was a few minutes walk south from Queen West. It was opened in November of 1989 by a group of friendswith Pat Violo, Lex van Erem, and Gio Cristiano at the corein a former storage space on the buildings lowest level.

Lex van Erem had the space and wanted to build a restaurant, but I convinced him it wasnt a good idea because of its location, recalls Violo, who had been a manager at RPM nightclub. I told him it best suited a nightclub. He liked the idea and asked me to be his partner.

The original idea was to open a club that played only alternative music, and looked very underground. We wanted the music to be the focal point, and it was inspired by CFNYs format.
