'N-word' plaintiff wins another $30K for punitive damages

The black woman who brought a hostile workplace complaint against her black boss for his repeated use of the N-word during a lengthy office rant has now won a $30,000 punitive damages award.

That adds to the $250,000 she won a few days ago in compensatory damages from a federal jury in Manhattan.

The case pitted Brandi Johnson, 38, against Rob Carmona, 61, the founder of the STRIVE East Harlem organization to help those of lesser means find jobs and gain economic sustainability. Ms. Johnson said Mr. Carmona had used the N-word repeatedly during a March 2012 office discussion, in which he expressed his dissatisfaction with her work performance. She testified that the dressing down and his use of the N-word left her offended and embarrassed, and that she spent 45 minutes crying in the bathroom.

Mr. Carmona, for his part, said he was only using the N-word as a term of endearment and that in the black culture, the term was often expressed in love. A federal jury didnt buy that argument, and awarded Ms. Johnson $250,000 in compensatory damages.

On Tuesday, the jury gave her $30,000 for punitive damages, The Associated Press reported.

Its the most offensive word in the English language, her attorney, Marjorie Sharpe said after the ruling, AP reported.

Mr. Carmona will have to pay $25,000 and his business STRIVE the other $5,000, the jury said.

The ruling helps clarify whats been widely seen as a confusing double standard that blacks can use the N-word with impunity in public, while other races cannot, or else face cries of racism. Ms. Sharpe acknowledged the double standard and guessed the case would leave a lasting impression on other businesses around the nation, facing similar situations.

Ann Coulter Bashes Obama on Syria: Only Going to Congress to Cover for ‘Idiotic Ultimatum’

Ann Coulter told Sean Hannity Tuesday night that shes against the United States taking military action in Syria, given theres no clear national security risk to the U.S., but also argued that President Obama has no business going to Congress, and the only reason he is doing so is to cover for his own idiotic ultimatum in the red line.

Coulter mocked Democrats acting like the use of chemical weapons in Syria is a crime against God and man that cannot go unanswered when they ferociously opposed the war in Iraq. She argued that while the U.S. took out al-Qaeda in Iraq, in Syria there iss a good chance this is going to give al-Qaeda the upper hand here. She reiterated her argument that Democrats are completely weak and untrustworthy on American national security issues, mockingly saying Obama cares about pretending to be Syrias commander-in-chief.

Hannity and Coulter were completely boggled by how much detail about the planned strikes are being divulged ahead of time. They did, however, differ on whether Congress has a duty to vote on any military resolution. Coulter argued its not technically a resolution of war, Obamas going to ignore it anyway, and the sole purpose of the vote is to make Obama look like less of an idiot.

Coulter pushed back on Hannitys assertion its Obamas constitutional duty to let Congress vote, and warned that there is always the potential for Democrats to screw the whole thing up.

Ann Coulter: Syria Shows ‘You Cannot Trust Democrats to Be Commander-in-Chief’

Conservative columnist Ann Coulter joined the hosts of Fox & Friends on Tuesday to discuss the developments over the holiday weekend as President Barack Obama makes the case for military intervention in the Syrian civil war. Coulter attacked the president and Democrats in general who she said are rarely capable of serving as a competent commander-in-chief. She also said that Democratic opposition to the Iraq war and support for Syrian intervention was hypocritical.

What Republicans ought to be able to vote on in Congress is whether they can invent a time machine, go back and not have Obama issue an ultimatum on chemical weapons, Coulter said of the push for a vote on intervention in Congress.

Im really enjoying seeing all these liberals, the utter, utter blinding hypocrisy of them complain being this chemical weapons attack, she continued saying that Saddam Husseins chemical attack or Rwandan genocide both represent more troubling humanitarian abuses than what is happening in Syria.

Brian Kilmeade asked Coulter about former White House advisor David Axelrod saying Obama had turned the tables on Republicans with his Syria strategy. Does that show that this is political when Axelrod makes that statement? Kilmeade asked.

This is just a political game for them, Coulter agreed. You cannot trust Democrats with to be commander in chief. Americans remember that when you vote for a president; they cannot take national security seriously, we do not intervene in countries to make America safer.
