Larry Speakes, former Reagan deputy press secretary, dies at 74

Larry Speakes, who was plunged, through a tragic 1981 assassination attempt, into the brightest of national spotlights, as chief spokesman for President Ronald Reagan, died Friday in Cleveland, Miss. He was 74.

A representative of a funeral home said Mr. Speakes had Alzheimers disease.

(Harry Naltchayan/The Washington Post) - Larry Speakes, seen here in 1982, became the acting White House press secretary after the assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan in March 1981.

A look at those who died last year.

When Reagan press secretary James Brady was severely wounded in the attempt on the president, Mr. Speakes was thrust into the eye of the storm. Over six years, a long tenure in his sensitive post, he was credited with 2,000 news media briefings.

Aware that a wrong word could have catastrophic consequences, he provided information on some of the most significant events of the era, including the historic meetings between Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev.

Mr. Speakes also commanded the podium in the West Wing amid a growing furor over administration plans to trade arms to Iran in return for support of the Nicaraguan contras.

Unlike most presidential spokesmen, Mr. Speakes was officially a deputy press secretary, in deference to Brady.

Criticism and controversy came with the job, and he received his share, during and after his tenure. On his departure, he also received a Presidential Citizens Medal from Reagan.

An uproar broke out after he had left the White House with the revelation in his memoirs that he had put words in the presidents mouth. As disclosed in Mr. Speakess memoir, a fabricated quotation was offered to the news media at the 1985 summit between Reagan and Gorbachev. It went: There is much that divides us, but I believe the world breathes easier because we are talking here together.

Yes, they actually went through with it.

The Heat and Nets debuted their nickname jerseys during Brooklyns 104-95 double overtime victory at the Barclays Center on Friday.

Although Dwyane Wade, Mario Chalmers, Greg Oden, Deron Williams and Brook Lopez all missed out on the fun due to various injuries, all 20 players that saw court time donned nicknames, rather than their last names, on the back of their jerseys.

All the easily recognizable nicknames for both teams were present: LeBron James wore King James, Ray Allen wore J. Shuttlesworth (a reference to his famous Jesus Shuttlesworth character in the movie He Got Game), Chris Andersen wore Birdman, Kevin Garnett wore Big Ticket, Paul Pierce wore Truth, and Jason Terry wore Jet.

Aftermonths of teasinganda few leaked images, both teams unveiled their full list of nickname jerseys this week (see below).

Check out the following gallery of nickname jersey images from before and during the game, including custom uniforms for ESPN broadcasters Mike Breen (Gray Mamba) and Jeff Van Gundy (Notorious JVG).

Ibiza: Nightlife – TripAdvisor – Reviews of Hotels, Flights …

Ibiza is probably best known internationally for being, perhaps, The Clubbing capital of the world! where the unique cultural diversity, warm temperatures, friendly and beautiful people all contribute to create a magical atmosphere. Clubs like pacha, Amnesia, Privilege, or El Divino are world renowned for hosting the best parties with some of the most famous house DJ's in the world. Definately ravers heaven!!! In recent years the emergence of HipHop, which until recently had gone fairly unnoticed on ibiza, has driven some clubs like Pacha, Eden of Es Paradis to host brilliant parties with some of the best UK and American MC's; you can even spot the likes of P Diddy and Tim Westwood...how things change.

There is also quite a strong underground Trance music movement and parties tend to be held nowadays in country villas or far away spots(if the police dont find out), you'll have to go to hippy markets and ask around to find out what is going on!

Alternatively more relaxed nights out are available for those in search of something different, the legendary Jazz Club Cafe Pereira boasts live Jazz every night of the week and is a winner. Local spanish music and Local festivities such as the celebration of the town's patrons/saints are a sight to see, and plenty of free food and booze available as well...!!

All in all the best nightlife you could expect, and there is other stuff going on if you're not into House or Techno.
