THE resurgent Liberals will have nearly half of Tasmania's state MPs if Legislative Council results go their way in May.
THE resurgent Liberals will have nearly half of Tasmania's state MPs if Legislative Council results go their way in May.
The Liberals - who recently took government with 15 of the 25 House of Assembly seats - are running candidates in both Upper House seats facing elections on May 3.
They are running former Liberal MHA Peter Hodgman in Huon and former Liberal staffer and ex-Senate candidate Don Morris in the Northern seat of Rosevears.
The Liberals already have two of the 15 Upper House seats, held by Attorney-General Vanessa Goodwin and Leonie Hiscutt in Montgomery.
Winning the two available Upper House seats would give them 19 of a combined 40 MPs.
In practical terms, they would still need support from independents to get legislation through the Legislative Council.
Mr Morris and independent incumbent Kerry Finch - a relatively left-wing MLC, according to elections expert Kevin Bonham - are the only candidates in Rosevears.
There are seven contenders to replace independent MLC turned Liberal MHA Paul Harriss in Huon.
