It is one of six new direct routes starting this month connecting Scotland to Philadelphia, Chicago, Zurich, Verona and the Dominican Republic.

The flights have been highlighted as VisitScotland attempts to attract more visitors and businesses to set up links with the country at the IMEX tourism trade show in Frankfurt.

The conference sees businesses from the tourism industry meet airlines and travel companies, and VisitScotland hopes events such as the Commonwealth Games and the Ryder Cup can lead to further opportunities.

Neil Brownlee, head of the business tourism at VisitScotland, said: "Scotland is excelling in business tourism, evidenced by the wealth of major investments happening throughout the country, including accommodation, venues and major new flight routes.

"We are looking forward to communicating the importance of doing business in Scotland to over 9,000 buyers at the event.

"With the Commonwealth Games, Ryder Cup and over 800 Homecoming events, 2014 is set to be a massive year for Scotland and this delivers great opportunities for the whole economy."

Meanwhile, British Airways is to start a new three-times-a-week flight between Edinburgh and Ibiza next week.

Hotter than Ibiza! Thousands flock to Bournemouth for sizzling sunshine

THOUSANDS flocked to beaches across Dorset this weekend thanks to sizzling temperatures making the county hotter than Ibiza.

Seafronts in Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch were packed with people making the most of the fine spring weather as the area recorded over 21 degrees C.

Temperatures over the weekend were also slightly higher than popular holiday resorts in the Canary Islands and gave hotspots Nice and Barcelona a run for their money.

Both Saturday and Sunday saw glorious sunshine, with bustling beaches, swamped sands and hotels brimming with guests.

Queues for ice creams stretched along the seafront near Bournemouth Pier, with car parks packed and roads busy but moving all weekend.

Georgie Rayment, 19, was visiting Bournemouth beach on Sunday for the day with friend Hayley Howlett, 18.

She said: We always come to Bournemouth beach. It's a beautiful day today.

UK warmer than Athens as Brits enjoy hottest day of year

4:52pm, Sat 17 May 2014 Britain to bask in hottest day of the year so far Last updated Mon 19 May 2014

Britons flocked to parks and beaches as the hottest temperature of the year so far was recorded.

The mercury rose to 23.9C (74.66F) in Santon Downham in Suffolk, beating yesterday's high of 23.7C (75.02F) recorded in Pershore College in Worcestershire.

Today's sunny weather meant the UK was warmer than Athens and Rome, which both had temperatures of 21C (69.8F) recorded.

Forecasters said tomorrow could be even warmer and reach 25C (77F), with bookmakers slashing their odds to just 4/7 that it will reach 26C (80F).

Ex-Baywatch star Pamela Anderson has revealed that she was raped when she was 12 and molested by a babysitter between the ages of 6 and 10.

Temperatures could rise even higher today after the warmest weekend of the year, the Met Office said.
