30-01-2012 06:52 http://www.nma.tv Twitter has unveiled plans to censor tweets on a country-by-country basis, drawing criticism from free-speech advocates a year after it was praised by Internet Freedom advocates for allowing Egyptian dissidents to continue tweeting after the Internet was blocked during the Arab Spring. Twitter says its country-specific censorship is meant to replace its previous system, when tweets that were taken down disappeared completely. Twitter will now censor some tweets in certain countries, but posts will remain visible elsewhere in the world. Twitter says it will be transparent about when and why tweets are censored. Twitter will post information on censored tweets at chillingeffects.org Many Twitter users, however, are outraged and believe the company is selling out Internet freedom, possibly with an eye for entering the China market, where it is blocked, though it is used by Chinese dissidents to get information to the outside world. "If Twitter censors then I'll stop tweeting," Chinese activist artist Ai Weiwei tweeted after hearing the news.

05-02-2012 19:50 It's a big day for the future of freedom of expression on social networking sites. 22 social networking sites including Facebook, Google, Yahoo and Microsoft have to submit a compliance report today on removing all so-called objectionable content. The trial court deadline ends today. The sites had been asked to remove the broadly anti-religious and anti-social contents on the basis of a petition by a Muslim cleric. The government too has threatened criminal proceedings if action is not taken. There's a similar case on in the Delhi High Court that had threatened to censor social networking sites if a way to pre-moderate content could not be found. for more log onto : alpha.newsx.com

19-01-2012 18:35 Arguing over? whether or not piracy is the same as stealing is just a matter of semantics. The real core of the argument has to do with profit. Taking a physical copy of an object is negative profit because it took money to produce that object. "Copying" a piece of digital media is? not stealing in the traditional sense because the owner doesn't actually lose money because they didn't technically lose anything. What businesses argue about is the loss of potential profit. Even though they didn't lose money, they're not gaining it? either. When companies say they lose millions in profit due to piracy they actually mean they're not making even more millions.
