Fiona Evans - Diploma in ICT Swansea Uni Winter Graduation 2013
http://www.swansea.ac.uk/graduation It was a proud day for Fiona Evans on Thursday, January 24 as she received a Higher Education (HE) Diploma in ICT: Web Design and Multimedia from Swansea University after four years of study. Fiona, aged 48, from Llanelli, received her award at the University #39;s Winter Degree and Award Congregations, during the congregation for the Department of Adult Continuing Education (DACE), held at the City and County of Swansea #39;s Grand Theatre. While today was a happy day of celebration for Fiona and her family, including husband Russell who attended the congregation, her return to learning came about after overcoming adversity and personal challenges. "When you #39;ve been through something traumatic like losing a limb, you can feel very isolated, and you need something positive to focus on and which will give you your confidence back," she said. Following the end of her hospital treatment and rehabilitation, which included an artificial limb, Fiona became a member of the Dyfed Amputee Self-Help Group (DASH). "DACE #39;s community-based course was very flexible and enabled me to study and further my skills, around the challenges I was facing at the time." As part of the Web Design and Multimedia course work, Fiona brought both her DASH and DACE interests together and used her newly-acquired skills to develop a much-needed website for the community support group. And the new site has enabled DASH to raise funds selling wristbands, and Fiona has also used the ...

How to Create a Website that is Quick, Easy and Free
To create a website for your rental business that #39;s easy, free and quick to set up, we recommend sites.google.com And there are a lot of pre-built templates that you can just pick and choose the design that you like and you plug in your information and images. Here #39;s a video that shows you how it works http://www.youtube.com If you want to create your own website and you have some money to invest and you want to create a website but you don #39;t know where to find a good developer and good programmer, or you might have had a bad experience in the past.... I highly recommend using http://www.elance.com. It #39;s a place where you can post your project of what you want to do and what kind of website you want to create. And then different programmers and developers can apply for the job to work on your website. You can also search for programmers and developers and see their different ratings and profiles. And also if you choose a developer through the website there #39;s also an escrow service in place. So what that means is when you pay your developer it will actually go to Elance first, your developer has to complete the project before they release the funds to them so it acts as a third-party to protect both you and for the developer or programmer. We found our developers there and we #39;re very very pleased with them and they do a great job. Another piece of advice that I could recommend is to go with something that #39;s open-source. Here you can read more about Open-Source en.wikipedia.org I would ...

Choosing an open-source CMS, part 3: Why we use WordPress

In this last installment of our three-part series on finding the best open-source content management system (CMS) for your needs, we asked two organizations -- online magazine Quartz.com and Carleton University -- to talk about why they chose WordPress over other open-source options and how well that decision has stood the test of time. (Our first installment examined Drupal and the second looked at Joomla.)

WordPress got its start as a blogging platform in May 2003 and gradually evolved, first into a blogging system that let users add Web pages outside of the blog and then into a full-featured, popular CMS. Of the three most popular open-source CMSs -- WordPress, Joomla and Drupal -- WordPress is both the most popular and the fastest growing by far, according to Web technology tracker W3Techs.

"Drupal has long provided a flexible platform, enabling it to meet a broad set of needs. However, WordPress 3.0 significantly bridged the flexibility gap," says Larry Cannell, an analyst with Gartner.

[For in-depth reviews of these three open-source content management systems, see Site builder shootout: Drupal vs. Joomla vs. WordPress. Looking for development tools? Try 10 essential WordPress plugins.]

Unlike Drupal, WordPress has a reputation for being notoriously easy to use -- in part because you don't have to download the software from the WordPress.org site and build your own Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP setup if you don't want to. Many less technically savvy people use the WordPress.com hosting service, which makes getting started easy.

This also means that companies using the higher-end WordPress CMS will find that many employees are already familiar with WordPress' administrative interface.

While Joomla and Drupal have more of a committee-based approach to decision-making as far as the direction and development of the software is concerned, the WordPress community is more hierarchical, which can mean faster decisions. "We have the benevolent dictator for life model," says co-founder Matt Mullenweg. "Ultimately, the buck stops at me."
