Saluting New Yorks Finest

Al Sharpton might get all the headlines when he attacks cops, but there are other folks in this battle and theyre about to make their voices heard.

This coming Saturday, New Yorkers will gather in Staten Island to honor police officers from the borough whove given their lives in the line of duty.

What a terrific idea. Sponsored by Citizens in Support for All Law Enforcement Agencies, the event will be a welcome antidote to all the bad press following Eric Garners death while resisting arrest including the Rev. Sharptons ugly anti-police rally last month.

Fact is, despite the impression left by loudmouth NYPD critics, biased news coverage and a mayor who seems to think cops are the enemy, more New Yorkers give our police a thumbs-up than down.

According to last months Quinnipiac poll, 50 percent of New Yorkers are happy with cops performance against 42 percent who disapprove. Asked how cops are doing in their own communities, New Yorkers were even more enthusiastic, backing police nearly 3-to-1.

No wonder teachers in Staten Island donned T-shirts to protest union boss Mike Mulgrews co-sponsorship of Sharptons anti-NYPD march.

For all the mud thrown at the department, New Yorkers know they stay safe only because of our men and women in blue.

These good people put their lives on the line every time they go out into the streets, and New Yorkers know that without them we could easily slip back to the Dodge City days of the 1970s and 80s.

What better way to show appreciation than by coming out this Saturday?

'Scorpion' Premiere Live Stream, CBS Start Time, Spoilers: Hi-Tech Geeks Set to Solve Global Threats

YouTube Screengrab: CBS new and upcoming TV show, Scorpion

The wittiness of "The Big Bang Theory" and the heightened inquisitiveness of "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" is mashed up into this new and upcoming TV series by CBS, 'Scorpion," stylized as . Said to be purportedly inspired by the true story of a computer whiz, the TV show is set to air its pilot episode on Monday at 9 p.m.

The story follows an eccentric genius named Walter O'Brien (Elyes Gabel) who, with a team of "brilliant misfits" was contracted by Homeland Security to help solve a hi-tech global crisis.

Nesting in a remote New York warehouse, O'Brien will work with his friends, Toby Curtis (Eddie Kaye), a behavioral expert who can predict a person's behavior; Happy Quinn (Jadyn Wong) a mechanical prodigy; and Sylvester Dodd (Ari Stidham), a math wizard.

O'Brien himself is a force to reckon with. Based on the real-life O'Brien who, at the young age of 13, infiltrated the NASA network and at the age of 39, has a company named after his moniker, Scorpion Computer Services, which employs over 2,600 geniuses from all over the world.

Aside from the four geniuses, the show will also feature the acts of Katharine McPhee whose character, Paige Dineen, isn't really that "genius." Playing a waitress at a diner, Dineen happens to spawn a gifted but uncommunicative son. Paige herself will be the emotional anchor for the lead star when he is at his lowest point.

"Normal people save everybody," McPhee's character said.

Robert Patrick, who will play FBI Agent Gallo, will be responsible in huddling up the misfits, giving them a purpose and constantly reminding them the truth of their endeavors.

"The pilot is 70 to 80 percent accurate," the Irish real-life O'Brien told the New York Post, suggesting that the show will likely to cover some of his and his group's real "technical adventures."
