The lies that are central to Obamas agenda

Damn Americans. They just dont see the wisdom of surrendering to experts the power they need to remake the country into a progressive paradise.

Sighing with regret, liberals like Jonathan Gruber admit that theyre forced to hoodwink the citizens. For their own good.

Gruber, the MIT economist who (in the words of The New York Times) put together the basic principles of ObamaCare and helped Congress draft the specifics of the legislation is one of a long line of liberals driven by the belief that the stupidity of the American people is so insurmountable that persuasion is futile. Liberalism: the place where compassion blurs into condescension.

Lack of transparency is a huge political advantage and basically, you know, call it the stupidity of the American voter or whatever, but basically, that was really, really critical to getting the thing to pass, Gruber said, in a newly unearthed 2013 video that went viral last week.

Grubers jocular tone wasnt surprising. In explaining why a huge tax increase was disguised to conceal it from the American people, he was admitting what was obvious to close observers: The law is really just a redistribution scheme. Even the Democrats didnt think ObamaCare could pass by being so described.

Thats why deception, as Gruber says, was central to its design.

Except Gruber got it wrong: The people werent actually fooled. Most Americans are not wonks. They simply suspected that the law was too good to be true.

ObamaCare will cut your premiums? By $2,500 a year? And reduce the deficit? While giving gold-plated coverage to tens of millions more people? Who wont have to pay much? And none of this will result in anyone losing their current plan?

To the average person, Obama sounded like a used-car dealer shouting, Free Ferrari. Gets 100 miles to the gallon! Did I mention it runs on rainwater?

Americans didnt buy it. Never did. At no time has approval for ObamaCare hit 50% in the Gallup poll.

Peladeau-led PQ would beat Liberals, according to Le Devoir poll

CTV Montreal Published Saturday, November 15, 2014 1:18PM EST Last Updated Saturday, November 15, 2014 6:14PM EST

PQ MNA and Quebec media mogul Pierre Karl Peladeau is one tall drink of water in the eyes of Quebec voters, according to a new voter intention survey which sees the party adding 10 percentage points of support and winning an election with him in charge.

A PKP-led Parti Quebecois would beat a Liberal party led by Phillipe Couillard 36 percent to 30 percent if an election were held today, according to a Leger-Le Devoir poll issued Saturday.

The CAQ party would come in third with 19 percent while the Quebec Solidaire would gather about 10 percent, according to the poll.

The Couillard Liberals currently lead the PQ - currently led by interim leader Stephane Bedard - by a 36 percent to 26 percent margin, according to the same poll. The CAQ also has 26 percent of the vote. The PQ polled 21 percent support last month.

If the Parti Quebecois were led by leadership candidates Bernard Drainville or Alexandre Cloutier, they would only attract 23 percent of voter support, while the party polls only 20 percent with Jean-Francois Lisee at the helm.

Peladeau would not only retain 96 percent of current PQ support, he would also attract 22 percent of CAQ voters and 27 percent of QS voters, according to the poll.

"The catch about a poll like this is that its largely showing name recognition," said Political Scientist Bruce Hicks. "So right now hes the big name, hes a bigger name even than the premier so it's unknown whether that would transfer to actual votes in the election. He doesnt stand for anything. Hes just a famous wealthy Quebecer and I think thats what youre seeing reflected in the polls."

Peladeau, who is expected to announce his candidacy for the PQ leadership, has the support of 59 percent of those surveyed in that potential race, while Cloutier had 21 percent, Drainville eight percent, Lisee four percent, Martine Ouellet one percent and Pierre Cere zero percent. Most of those surveyed are not card-carrying PQ members and dont have the right to vote in the PQ leadership race.

The online poll interviewed 981 respondents between November 10 and 13 and has a margin of error of 3.1 percent 19 times out of 20.
