India will remain engaged with Afghanistan after withdrawal of foreign forces: Experts

India has long term commitment with Afghanistan to help in security, economic and humanitarian support, say experts.

India will continue to play a major regional power to help rebuild war-torn Afghanistan as foreign forces starts withdrawal.

Experts believe that despite the change of government in India, the political Will continue to favour bring peace and economic stability in Afghanistan.

"Former foreign minister Salman Khurshid (he) made it very clear that we do not have exit policy. Then, recently new Indian Foreign Minister Ms. Sushma Swaraj was there and she also said that we are here to stay. So all these are positive messages in terms of India remaining engaged in Afghanistan and that too at a time when Afghanistan is passing through a very crucial phase. It is going through three transitions, overlapping transitions security, political and economic", said, Vishal Chandra, a research fellow at IDSA

Chandra, who has been closely watching developments in Afghanistan, said security will remain a challenge for the new Afghan government, and it will take years to get a hold of the situation.

"One cannot expect Afghan government to be able to deal with the security situation, a country which has been on war for more than thirty years. A country where all the institutions security, political, economic institutions were destroyed. I think ten or thirteen years is too lesser time to expect any government in Afghanistan to be able to take care of its security on its own," said Chandra.

"We have given them some assistance by training their officers and men but I think the Afghan forces will be stretched a bit. I expect resurgence or stepping up of Taliban activities. Secondly, the Afghan National Security Forces are not equipped with the kind of material, weaponry and logistics that are required to handle in the insurgency situation", said Vikram Sood, former Secretary R and AW, and Advisor, Observer Research Foundation,

India is not only providing financial aid to Afghanistan, but is working tirelessly to train Afghan people in military and civil affairs.
