Cloak: the app that anti-social men have been waiting for

Within the iOS app, your friends location will update in line with their own social media blatherings or check-ins, although if four hours pass without a post (utterly implausible for some), their icon will start to fade, suggesting they may have moved on.

Cloak offers a vision of the world in which you never again have to think of something to say after bumping into someone. Small talk, begone!

There is, however, a small caveat. Still in its infancy, the app is not yet a compendium of all networking sites. Currently, it only covers Foursquare and Instagram. This means that if someone posts on Facebook and Twitter alone, their coordinates will be unknown to Cloak and youll be forced to endure uncomfortable social interaction like a regular human being. Likewise, anyone who opts out of allowing their mobile device to access and share their location will also slip under the radar.

Nonetheless, Cloak offers a modicum of solace from our digitally over-saturated existence. In a world where political leaders snap selfies and beam them into the online ether, while your old school friends deem it necessary to check-in to their own house, Cloak promises breathing space. It's the anti-Tinder, a reverse Grindr, integrating a much-needed aloofness back into daily life.

And as for those who want to accuse me of being anti-social, I ask you: who has face-to-face conversations these days, anyway? Back off, Grandad drop me a WhatsApp, maybe a tweet, so I can reply safe in the knowledge you cant see the disdain written all over my reclusive face.

Turkish PM vows to 'eradicate' Twitter

By Ivan Watson and Gul Tuysuz, CNN

March 21, 2014 -- Updated 0029 GMT (0829 HKT)

STORY HIGHLIGHTS

(CNN) -- Hours after Turkey's prime minister vowed to "eradicate" Twitter, Turkish Internet users began to experience widespread disruptions Thursday while trying to access the popular social networking website.

Outrage and fury erupted online. Within an hour the hashtags "#TwitterisblockedinTurkey," "#DictatorErdogan" and "TurkeyBlockedTwitter" surged to the service's top worldwide trends.

Meanwhile, Twitter swiftly offered subscribers a work-around via its verified policy account by advertising an alternative way to send out tweets using cell-phone instant messaging.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan first vowed to shut Twitter down at a campaign rally on Thursday in the city of Bursa.

"Now there is a court order. Twitter, mwitter, we will eradicate it all," Erdogan said, using a Turkish expression that mocked the name of the social networking site.

"The international community will say this and that, and it doesn't concern me one bit," Erdogan added, apparently anticipating the subsequent uproar.

"They will see the power of the Turkish Republic. This has nothing to do with freedom-shmeedom. Freedom is not invading someone's privacy."
