Peter Thiel's Presentation At UC Berkeley Was Cut Short By Ferguson Protestors Last Night

Billionaire libertarian iconoclast Peter Thiel was reportedly chased off stage Wednesday evening at UC Berkeley. He was giving a presentation organized by The Berkeley Forum, a student-run organization that brings experts form a diversity of fields to speak at the college, when protesters began banging on the auditorium doors about 20 minutes into his Q&A.

At one moment when the auditorium was rather quiet, a man shouted "F--k you!" at Thiel, rose from his seat and left. Thiel was his usual cool self, saying, "This is really a classic Berkeley event today this is so cool!" Shortly thereafter, protesters overtook the stage, and Thiel was forced out. The protesters held signs from stage touting Ferguson-related slogans and "Black Lives Matter," even chanting "NSA's got to go!"

Thiel doesn't have anything to do with the racially tense killings of black people at the hands of police, but area protesters have been going strong in Oakland since Nov. 24, when Darren Wilson went unindicted for shooting Michael Brown to death. When the officer who killed Eric Garner similarly went unindicted a few days ago, it stoked protester ire again, and they likely saw Thiel's event as a high-profile happening where they could draw attention to the issue.

The Congressional Progressive Caucus is pushing its nearly 70 Democrats to oppose a sweeping funding bill on Thursday because it rolls back a key aspect of the Dodd-Frank financial reform law.

The liberal groups whip operation blasted out an email earlier Thursday urging its members to reject the so-called cromnibus if a provision tucked into the massive bill which helps big banks trade derivatives in units backstopped by a government guarantee remained in the spending measure. Democrats see it as a way to undo protections intended to prevent financial crises like the 2008 crash.

Story Continued Below

This kind of activity was a cause of the 2008 crisis and directly led to the economic hardship currently being felt by millions of Americans, reads the email to CPCs member offices, obtained by POLITICO. A provision in the cromnibus would gut and repeal this provision.

The caucuss co-chairman, Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-Ariz.) and Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), declared that they would oppose the cromnibus in a statement Wednesday. Liberals are also irate about a provision in the spending bill that would increase contribution limits for official party committees.

Its not yet clear if this new push will cause sufficient opposition to jeopardize the bill. If enough liberal Democrats defect from the spending package, it could potentially derail its passage, since House Republicans are also set to lose dozens of their own members.

Bill Ayers, Noam Chomsky to Appear in Dinesh D'Souza's New Film (Video)

Dinesh DSouza will let several prominent liberal thinkers have their say in his follow-up documentary to 2016: Obamas America. The conservative filmmaker told The Hollywood Reporter that the documentary, America, will feature the commentary of Alan Dershowitz, Noam Chomsky, Bill Ayers, Michael Eric Dyson and Charles Truxillo.

In 2016, we let President Obamas voice be heard literally, DSouza tells THR. With America, we also wanted to hear directly the voices of Americas biggest critics. The conservative answer to offensive speech has always been not to silence it, but to listen carefully, consider whats been said and offer more speech. I was delighted that some of the smartest progressives in America agreed to sit down with me.

DSouza wouldnt name the prominent liberals who declined his request to appear in the film, nor would he disclose what is said by those who do appear, beyond Truxillos comments, seen in a video below.

The filmmaker is under indictment for violating campaign finance laws for allegedly using straw donors in order to give more money to a U.S. Senate campaign than legally allowed. His trial begins May 19, but he says his legal problems will not delay the release of America.

STORY: Dinesh D'Souza's 'America' Trailer Released

Several prominent people, including Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, have said that DSouza is being targeted by political operatives who were upset with 2016, an unflattering look at Barack Obama that used lots of audio and video of the president. The movie also included an interview with George Obama, the presidents half brother in Kenya.

In video of America obtained by THR, Truxillo a professor of Chicano studies at the University of New Mexico and a leading voice on the far left on the topic of immigration airs several provocative opinions. In the film, he argues in favor of North America confederating with Mexico in a country that will be predominantly Latino and Hispanic.

Truxillo also tells DSouza that Mexican immigrants have no desire to become like the white brats in the mall and adds: I like the things the Americans have. Who doesnt? But I dont necessarily want to be part of their culture. I dont want to end up in the world of Roseanne Barr.

As for the other progressive thinkers, Dershowitz is one of the countrys most famous attorneys. Clients of the outspoken liberal have included Mike Tyson, Patty Hearst and O.J. Simpson. His representation of accused murderer Claus von Bulow was the subject of Reversal of Fortune, an Oscar-winning 1990 film in which deceased actor Ron Silver plays Dershowitz.

Chomsky, a philosopher-scientist and professor emeritus at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is one of the most regarded thinkers on the American left. Dyson is a writer, radio host, television pundit and professor of sociology at Georgetown University.

Rivers APC gov candidate hails Buhari

Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, Dr Dakuku Peterside, has congratulated Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), winner of APCs presidential primary.

Peterside, who was among the nearly 8000 delegates that voted at the partys national convention which held at Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos, also called on Nigerians to unite and support the general whose enviable record, he said, is well known throughout the country. Peterside said this in a statement he issued shortly after the counting of the ballot papers.

He said, As you begin your campaign, our dear general, I urge you to remember that our country desperately needs hope and healing.

This challenge, I must say, lies squarely on your shoulders as all eyes are on you to bring about the new Nigeria of promise that we all desire. In the same vein, Peterside extolled the virtues of Buhari, who he said is widely acknowledged in Nigeria and beyond for his unblemished record in government. According to him, By any measure, you have remained the conscience of Nigeria in the last couple of decades by your actions. Today, you are celebrated and respected across our country as an exemplary leader and outstanding statesman.

The verdict here today shows that Nigerians still remember and appreciate your contribution during your time in government. No doubt, you will bring your anti-corruption asset and good name to 2015 Presidential election which promises to be interesting with this historic and divine mandate. Again, let me, even at the risk of sounding repetitive, say that your victory today has raised the ante and our country will be better for it. I am confident that you will rescue Nigeria from this unnecessary slide. Peterside believes that Buharis emergence is a sign of better things to come from the APC.

Before this election today, I had prayed silently for this day, particularly after reading through the Generals policy options which he sent to me about two months ago. His strategies, especially in the areas of infrastructure and economic policies are practicable and can easily address our lingering economic woes, he added. He therefore called on Nigerians irrespective of age, sex, tribe or creed to rally round Buhari and support the APC.
