Iraq war veteran suspected in 6 fatal Pennsylvania shootings still at large

An Iraq war veteran suspected in a shooting rampage that left six of his estranged family members dead remained at large late Monday as the manhunt continued north of Philadelphia.

The victims included his ex-wife, her mother, her grandmother, her sister, her brother-in-law and a niece. A nephew was wounded.

Former Marine Sgt. Bradley William Stone, 35, also may have abducted his two daughters from his ex-wifes home, a witness said, but dropped them off with a neighbor before he vanished. By late Monday night, the manhunt had spilled from Montgomery County into Bucks County, leading residents in Doylestown to shelter indoors.

Stone, of Pennsburg, was being sought on suspicion of shootings in the towns of Lansdale, Lower Salford Township and Souderton. The communities are 35 to 50 miles north of Philadelphia.

Montgomery County law enforcement officials described a series of attacks that began at 3:30 a.m. and continued until 5 a.m., until Stone dropped off his daughters and disappeared, abandoning his vehicle and his cellphone.

A possible sighting of Stone took place Monday night: The township of Doylestown said an attempted armed robbery took place about 7 p.m. local time involving a man whose description was similar to that of Stone. A white man dressed in camouflage clothing and carrying a knife demanded car keys from a person walking a dog, the township said on Facebook. The victim had a gun and fired at the man, who ran away, the township said.

On Monday morning, Stones ex-wife, Nicole Stone, 33, was found dead in her home in Lower Salford Township.

Nicole and Bradley Stone had divorced in 2009.

"They've been fighting for years, real bad," a neighbor, Michele Brewster, told the Allentown Morning Call. "He's been tormenting her. She's gone to the police, and she has told everybody, 'He's going to kill me.'''

The Stones had been involved in a protracted custody battle over their two daughters, according to a friend of Bradley Stone.

Iraq War vet sought in six Pennsylvania killings

An Iraq war veteran suspected of killing six family members, including his 14-year-old niece, in a shooting spree in communities near Philadelphia was being sought on Monday by Pennsylvania police.

The manhunt for Bradley William Stone, 35, focused in and around Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, where residents were advised to remain indoors with their doors locked, the Montgomery County district attorney said.

Stone, who lives in Pennsburg, was a suspect in the shooting deaths on Monday of his ex-wife, his former mother-in-law, former grandmother-in-law, former sister-in-law and two other family members, District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman told a news conference.

"As we stand here right now, we don't know where he is," Ferman said, adding that Stone took his two young daughters from the home of his ex-wife but left them with a neighbor and they were safe. Pennsburg is about 50 miles northwest of Philadelphia.

Ferman said Stone sometimes uses a cane or walker, but it was not clear if he actually needed such a device to get around.

As night fell on Monday, the search for Stone turned to neighboring Bucks County, where a man walking his dog was confronted by a suspect carrying a knife who tried to take his car keys.

The dog walker was armed, and fired several shots at the suspect. Police in Doylestown Township, about 24 miles from Pennsburg, say the knife-wielding man fit Stone's description.

Media reported that Stone suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder. NBC said he had enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves in 2002 and was honorably discharged in 2011.

Stone was deployed at least once to Iraq, NBC said, adding that his military records did not show that he had been wounded in combat.

Stone was believed to have gone on a shooting spree in three towns, first killing his ex-wife's sister, husband and 14-year-old daughter in Souderton at about 3:30 a.m. ET, the district attorney said. A 17-year-old son survived but was wounded and hospitalized, she said.

Libya Imposes Force Majeure on 2 Oil Ports After Clashes

Libya, the holder of Africas largest crude reserves, halted exports from two of its biggest oil ports as rival forces battled to control the nations main revenue source.

National Oil Corp, the state-run oil company, declared force majeure at Es Sider and Ras Lanuf, Libyas largest and third-largest oil ports, with a combined capacity of 560,000 barrels a day. Force majeure is a legal status that protects a company from liability when it cant fulfill a contract for reasons beyond its control.

National Oil spokesman Mohamed Elharari said the ports werent damaged and that the fighting occured at some distance from both facilities. The nations output dropped signicantly, he said, without giving an estimate.

Two officials with knowledge of production operations said Libya was producing about 350,000 barrels a day over the past 24 hours, compared with 800,000 barrels a day before the fighting broke out on Dec. 13. The officials asked not to be identified because they arent authorized to speak to the media.

Libya is divided after its internationally recognized government, led by Abdullah al-Thinni, sought refuge in the countrys eastern region after Islamist militias took over Tripoli about four months ago. Omar al-Hassi set up a rival government in the capital with the backing of the militants.

Thinni announced plans last week to assert his governments control of oil payments made by foreign companies, prompting the Islamist forces backing his rival to try to seize the eastern oil terminals protected by the Petroleum Facilities Guard.

Its an important decline, but I cant say how much, Elharari, speaking by phone from Tripoli, said of the drop in production. The terminals were closed as a precaution to preserve the lives of the workers; the shutdown of the ports was done in an orderly, professional way to preserve the equipment.

Brent crude, a pricing benchmark for more than half of the worlds oil, added 84 cents to $62.69 a barrel on the ICE Futures Europe exchange in London at 12:34 p.m. local time. The contract closed on Dec. 12 at the lowest level since July 2009.

National Oil, or NOC, is determined to protect the oil resources of the country in a way that protects the rights of the country and the partners in line with terms of the partnership agreements, according to a Dec. 13 statement posted on the companys website declaring the force majeure.

A spokesman for the Petroleum Facilities Guard, a force loyal to Thinnis government, said Islamist militias attempted to invade the terminal over the weekend and were repulsed. They suffered heavy losses, the spokesman, Ali Al-Hasy, said by phone from Es Sider, reporting no casualties on the PFG side. It is relatively quiet now.
