Building to Scale, ‘No Experience Required’ – Entrepreneur

Last year, my partner and I raised $3 million to scaleJumpCrew, our social marketing and sales outsourcing business. Our first task: sharingour ideal hiring profile with the new recruitment team.

JumpCrew wasn't our first venture. Over the past seven years, we have hired hundreds of salespeople for JumpCrew, LocalVox and other clients. And during this period, the composition of our teams and our ideal profile of a top performer have bothmaterially changed.

What started as a surprising observation about top performers turned into a fascinating discovery, one which performance data ultimately supported and one whichre-shaped our hiring strategy.Last October, that discovery helped us set our 12-month hiring goals and defineour ideal team and individual profiles.

Subsequently, the majority of our first 100 hires had . . . little or no experience in either marketing or sales. --How's that, again?

Like most companies, we had started with the assumption that our top performers would be experienced salespeople who transitioned to digital marketing with sales savvy. Butwe were wrong.

In our fast-growth SaaS environment, we learned that recent grads often outperformed sales pros with 10 to 15 years experience.In hindsight, we were experiencing a transformative moment in the SaaS economys influence on productivity. The correlation between those taking the Challenger approach and those who are outperformers was not surprising.A 2007 Harvard Business Review studyshowed that fully 54 percentof the top performers looked at werechallengers (as opposed to "relationship builders," "hard workers," "lone wolves" and "reactive problem-solvers.")

This is a salad which works fine for Trump's oligarchy. However, these false fears and economics do nothing for the majority of our citizens.

After an hour and a half of waiting for his censorship to end, I hung up and I am sure I wasn't alone in this fiasco.

I wanted to ask questions about two pieces of legislation. The first was House Joint Resolution 40, which would allow "mentally incapable" persons to be omitted from the National Instant Criminal Background Check System and enable them to legally buy a firearm.

Question: Congressman, really, haven't you heard of Sandy Hook?

The second was HJR 41, which would remove the requirement for energy companies to report any funds received from foreign countries.

Question: Congressman, do you really think that is an overly burdening regulation for Exxon and others?

You have said that "doing live town halls" doesn't work because it lets in the radical protesters and turns it into a political rally. I am not a radical protester. I simply wanted you to explain why you voted "aye" on both these bills. Because you censored your tele-town hall, I didn't get an answer and I am sure that there are others who didn't get their legitimate questions answered.

By the way Congressman, Michael Flynn's phone was not wire tapped. The truth is that the Russian ambassador's phone was monitored while Flynn was doing Trump's bidding. Nice try, but you can't defend or excuse this guy.

Alcohol and Marijuana Control Office hires new director – Alaska Public Radio Network

The state announced Tuesday (Feb. 21)a new head for the office in charge of regulating alcohol and marijuana.

Erika McConnell has worked in Anchorages municipal planning department for more than a decade. More recently, she wrote the citys regulations for commercial cannabis businesses.

McConnells new job as director of the Alcohol and Marijuana Control Office falls under the Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development. Commissioner Chris Hladick said her expertise on local regulation makes McConnell an asset for state administration.

Shes well positioned to take on management and regulatory duties of this position, Hladick said. She was the marijuana coordinator a while for the city, and I think that speeds up her on-boarding process as she learns the states regulatory structure.

The AMCO director has a lot of influence shaping the state governments role in Alaskas new cannabis industry. McConnell will have a say in controversial issues like on-site consumption and the legality of certain concentrated oils.

Though many of the rules regulating marijuana businesses are already written, the implementation of those rules has raised numerous issues that McConnell will have to weigh in on. That includes decisions *about* controversial measures that are still in limbo, like whether or not to allow on-site consumption and legal disputes over certain concentrated oils.

Shortly after news of the appointment, opinions from industry members were mixed.

Bruce Schulte is the former chair of the marijuana control board, and has reservations over whether McConnells background will align with industry needs.

It is a fact that Anchorage has been one of the most difficult communitiesreally the most difficult community for any of these businesses to get established, Schulte said. And Erikas been very key in that process, so I hope that we dont see any more complication extend state-wide like what weve seen in Anchorage.

Schulte frequently disagreed about policy decisions made by the last head of AMCO, Cynthia Franklin, before he was dismissed from his position by Governor Walker. Schulte said he hopes that McConnell will bring a broader perspective to the office, which hes criticized for being too top-down in the rule-making process.

I would hope that wed see a friendlier interaction with the cannabis industry, and an AMCO office thats there to help them succeed rather than throw yet more obstacles in their way, Schulte said.

Others found the appointment more encouraging. Attorney Jana Weltzin represents several cannabis businesses in Alaska, and says, in her dealings, shes found McConnell to be tough but fair. Weltzin added, shes going to be hard on both sides which is how it should be.

McConnell takes over as AMCO director on March 30th.
