Danielsson: Migrant crisis is not issue of Serbia, European challenge – European Western Balkans (press release)

Migrant crisis is not the issue of Serbia, it is a European challenge that requires a joint solution, said the Director General of the European Commissions DG NEAR Christian Danielsson following a visit to the migrant reception centre in Obrenovac, the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia reports.

Danielsson told the press that the reception centre in Obrenovac, just as any other similar facility in Serbia, was an example of close cooperation between Serbia and the EU.

He said that the EU would continue to financially help Serbia manage those centres, noting that since spring 2015 the EU has provided Serbia EUR50 million to cover food and other costs, Delegation reports.

Danielsson said that the EU also donated vehicles for Serbian border police and the Commissariat for Refugees.

Danielsson also visited the thermal power plant Nikola Tesla in Obrenovac together with Serbian Minister of Energy Aleksandar Anti.

‘We waited in silence’ Migrants protest against deportation centres set up across Italy – Express.co.uk

GETTY

Italy is at breaking point, with 181,000 migrants travelling to the country, mostly by boat, in the last year.

And the government in Rome estimated the nation could only take a total of 200,000.

The countrys answer to the crisis is the Minniti-Orlando decree, which will see several detention centres built at a cost of 13 million to the taxpayer, which will act as depot for migrants returning to their homeland.

But 50 refugees took to the streets in Piazza Nettuno in Bologna to demonstrate against the walls of policy and expulsions.

The migrants were keen to shatter the notion that they simply scrounge off the state and came to Italy for an easy ride.

One refugee said: We are accused of living in hotels paid with the money of Italian people, but in fact we waited in silence in reception centres.

The new decree, which could fast-track deportation for potentially thousands of migrants, has left the African cohort feeling despondent.

One protester said: None of us believes in the promise of asylum and hospitality.

If we still stay here silently then we will never have the permission needed to live and move freely in Italy and Europe.

The Italian government has also set aside funds for the management of the new proposed deportation centres, which will cost 3.8million in 2017, 12.4million in 2018 and 18.2million in 2019.

A further 19.1million has also been allocated for 2017 alone to ensure the speedy exit of illegal immigrants, which the government said would be made in consideration of the exceptional influx of foreign citizens from North Africa.

These funds will be taken from the Fami-Fund Kindergarten program, migration and integration co-financed by the European Union.

European law dictates Italy must set up migrant centres, called hotspots, where officials can distinguish between those who merely claim to have fled persecution and those who actually have.

Illegal immigrant ‘Dreamer’ to deliver Spanish Dem response to Trump – Washington Times

Democrats have tapped an illegal immigrant Dreamer to deliver the Spanish-language response to President Trumps speech to Congress next week, elevating the fight over immigration policy thats come to dominate the first weeks of the new administration.

Astrid Silva, who is in the country under protection of President Obamas 2012 deportation amnesty, also spoke at Democrats presidential convention last summer.

Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi also announced that former Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear will deliver the English response.

Ms. Silva said in a statement released by the two leaders that her story deserves a voice in the debate.

President Trump would have people believe that all immigrants are criminals and that refugees are terrorists. But like my family, the vast majority of immigrants and refugees came to this country escaping poverty and conflict, looking for a better life and the opportunity to reach the American Dream, she said.

Ms. Silva was brought to the U.S. illegally at the age of 5. Shes been an activist in the community of Dreamers, the young adult illegal immigrants who have proved to be the most sympathetic figures in the debate.

Mr. Trump has said he would treat Dreamers with heart, and has exempted them even as he has announced policies to restore the list of people eligible for deportation to pre-Obama administration levels.

Indeed, Dreamers caught by immigration agents are being released, just as they were under the Obama administration though one, in Washington state, has been detained after agents said he admitted to having gang ties, which would make him ineligible for the 2012 Deferred Action program.

His case has become a rallying point for activists, who say Homeland Security has fabricated evidence against the man and are demanding his immediate release.

"They are coming here to benefit our lives," he said, noting the large amount of undocumented workers in fields such as agriculture.

"The vast majority of undocumented immigrants in this country are not terrorists," he said, responding to repeated contentions by President Trump that many illegal immigrants are criminals.

Ramos said he has no problem with removing violent criminal illegal immigrants, but disagreed with Wallace when asked about those who use fake ID cards or commit identity theft.

"That is not a violent crime," Ramos said on "The O'Reilly Factor," "it is a crime [but] they are coming here to benefit our lives."

"Many of them use fake drivers' licenses, why? Because they are working for us," he said.

Ramos added that the White House's statement that Mexican relations are "phenomenal" was inaccurate, calling the US-Mexico relationship the worst since the United States took part in the Battle of Veracruz in 1914.

"Just lighten up," Davi, known for his roles in "License to Kill," "Die Hard" and "The Goonies," said on "Your World" today.

"Have them invite all the immigrants, all the refugees ... all the illegal criminals. Open up all the rules of the Academy," he said.

"Open the gates in Bel Air and let the people camp out. Why have any boundaries at all."

Davi added that in response to Streep's and other actors' lamentations of Trump's strict border policy, law enforcement should not be present this year to secure their award show's perimeter.

He said the politically-vocal actors in Hollywood are out of touch with the needs of working class Americans.

Davi also noted that in the 1940s through 1960s, some actors similarly expressed their "progressive, Communist, Marxist agenda" in public.
