2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which is a milestone to celebrate so Im going to tell you just a small snippet of the fight women engaged in to get us to this anniversary. In 1848, July, the first meeting on a national level was convened to discuss the need for better education and employment opportunities for women.

From this first large-scale meeting grew organizations such as the National Woman Suffrage Association (NWSA), founded by Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony; while Lucy Stone and Julia Ward Howe formed the American Woman Suffrage Association (AWSA) due to their disagreement with the NWSA on how to go about winning the right to vote. Another suffrage organization that was formed by Harriet Tubman, Frances E.W. Harper, Ida B. Wells, and Mary Church Terrell was the National Association of Colored Womens Clubs (NACWC) due to the underrepresentation of African American women in the movement. Over the late 1800s several suffrage groups would merge as their views aligned and new groups would form.

On January 10, 1878 a senator from California, Aaron Sargent, would introduce an amendment to the constitution that would grant women the right to vote; this would eventually become the 19th Amendment. In the intervening years, demonstrations, parades, street speaking, and other efforts were organized in support of womens suffrage. Alice Paul, who founded the National Womens Party (NWP), organized a parade in Washington D.C. On March 3, 1913 around eight thousand women marched in what was the largest suffrage event to date. There was mixed support and opposition in the approximately 500,000 strong crowd gathered to watch the march, and over 100 women ended up in the hospital by the end.

Finally, on June 4, 1919 Congress passed the federal womens suffrage amendment; its now a matter of getting 36 states to ratify the amendment so that it becomes law. Utah is the first state to ratify the amendment. Before becoming a state, Utah had given women the right to vote back in 1870, making it the home to the largest population of female voters at the time. Almost fifteen months after the 19th passed in Congress, it is ratified into law on August 18, 1920.

If you enjoy spilling the tea and sipping the tea, there are some wonderful tea rooms that are a short drive away. Tea rooms are great for birthday parties for kids and adults alike. They also make great venues for bridal showers, baby showers, and other parties. All up and down the Jersey Shore tea rooms delight with a sense of that old fashioned feeling.

Inside of a restored Victoria home, the Lizzie Rose was inspired byDownton Abbey when decorating each room. They offer parties for four to forty.

Located in Monmouth County, this tea room holds public events like game nights, yoga classes, and high tea. They offer 72 varieties of hot tea, iced teas, tea lattes, and a variety of pastries. Check them out here.

Tea Party To Go not only hosts parties at their tea room, but you can also rent China for your at-home party. They offer 6 different teas and an extensive food menu all on their vintage China.

Located on the Physick Estate, this tea room offers the unique experience of dining in old horse stalls. If you are looking for something a little stronger than tea, they offer Cape May Winery wine. Reservations are not required, but they are encouraged.

Inspired by a tea party in Wonderland, the tea room is dripping with history including a chandelier that dates back to the world's fair in Philadelphia. See more about this Monmouth county tea room here.

The Tranquil Garden Tea Room offers adult and kid afternoon tea, high tea, and late tea. Like most tea rooms they do require reservations for all tea services. Find out more here.

I actually celebrated my 24th birthday here and it was so delightful. I discovered Lady Grey Tea for the first time here and it soon became my favorite. The restaurant offers private afternoon tea with finger sandwiches, scones, fruit, salad, desserts, and unlimited tea. Learn more about private parties here.

ALBANY The social event of the season for kids is coming Saturday when the Albany Museum of Art hosts an American Girl Winter Tea Party.

We all enjoyed pretend tea parties with our dolls when we were growing up, Annie Vanoteghem, director of education and public programming for the AMA, said. I think this real-life tea party will be a special event that your child will remember fondly for years to come.

Set for 2-4 p.m., the event is a tea party for girls, boys, their dolls and even stuffed animals, Vanoteghem said. Were calling it an American Girl tea party, but any girl or boy is welcome to come and to bring their best friend, whether its a doll or a teddy bear.

Kids can dress up for the tea party, but its not required.

They can dress however they choose, she said. We will have some doll clothes on hand, so theyll have the opportunity to play dress-up with their dolls.

Tea will be served in teacups, and children will have treats to go with it.

The kids will have the opportunity to enjoy time with their friends and make new friends as they play with their dolls in a happy, safe environment, Vanoteghem said. Its going to be a lot of fun and a friendly, playful atmosphere.

The creativity of play will be augmented with fun projects tailored for the event.

The kids will be able to create accessories like bracelets not only for themselves, but for their dolls, Vanoteghem said. Well also have other engaging projects and crafts for them to enjoy.

The cost to attend is $15 for AMA members and $20 for non-members.

Of course, its free for dolls and parents, Vanoteghem said. Parents can drop off their child if they like, or they can stay for part or all of the tea party.

President Donald Trumps impeachment is a sham, from start to finish,Tea Party Patriots Co-Founder and Honorary Chair Jenny Beth Martin writes in a commentary published Wednesday in USA Today.

Even before the one-sided House impeachment inquiry, Martin has been calling for the Senate to immediately vote to dismiss without a trial articles of impeachment againt President Trump, if the House votes to approve them.

But, if the Senate is determined to try the case, Martin says the Republcan-controlled Senate should not grant Democrats demands for more witnesses. Both the House and Senate should work with the same set of facts, she writes:

So, what would be fair in the Senate? Democrats demand for witnesses who didnt testify in the House is ludicrous. A majority of the House impeached the president based on the evidence that was presented. Thats the evidence that should be presented to the Senate no more, no less.

However, if Republicans do cave to Democrats demands, then, for the sake of fairness, Trumps team should be allowed to call the witnesses he was denied in the House like the whistleblower, Hunter Biden, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and House Intel Chair Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) Martin says.

In either case, Trump should be acquitted, she concludes:

This entire episode is a sham, from start to finish. In the interests of fairness, the president should be acquitted with new witnesses or without.
