Republican senators are blaming Democrat leadership for the influx of illegal aliens overwhelming the U.S.-Mexico border. Some have even referred to the the border crisis as the Biden effect.

While speaking on the Senate floor Tuesday, Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wy.) and Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) pointed out how the Biden administrations policies are squarely to blame for the crisis at the southern border.

The GOP lawmakers began with data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), which shows more than 100,000 illegal immigrants crossed the border in the month of February. Sen. Scott stressed thats more than double the number from that time last year. The Florida lawmaker made the following remarks on the matter:

Youve heard the numbers, 100,000 people were detained last month. Almost 10,000 children. Fifteen-thousand children now in custody. This is all Joe Bidens doing. He needs to go to the border, needs to see the crisis hes created. He said hes going to do it now, but we dont know when hes going to do it. He created this crisis. He needs to go deal with it.

In response, the Biden administration recently awarded Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) an $86.9 million contract to secure hotel rooms near the border to provide temporary shelter for families who illegally crossed.

Under the contract, each family receives a comprehensive health assessment, including COVID-19 testing. However, its been reported that more than 100 illegal immigrants who tested positive have been released into Texas.

Sen. Barrasso said Republicans have solutions, but Democrats dont want to hear them.

This is Joe Bidens crisis, he created it by his policies, asserted the Wyoming lawmaker. Republicans have common sense solutions that would actually reverse this immediately and it involves securing the border, enforcing the laws and restoring the Remain in Mexico orders.

Sen. Barrasso said otherwise, security and safety of the U.S. will continue to suffer. He went on to preview the trip he plans to make to the border in Texas later this week to inspect the situation firsthand since the White House is still in denial.

Illegal migrants will be denied right to settle in UK even if granted asylum – Telegraph.co.uk

Ms Patel, who will unveil the plans in the Commons on Wednesday, said: "Under our New Plan for Immigration, if people arrive illegally they will no longer have the same entitlements as those who arrive legally, and it will be harder for them to stay.

"If, like over 60 per cent of illegal arrivals, they have travelled through a safe country like France to get here, they will not have immediate entry into the asylum system - which is what happens today."

The Government will seek to remove those who come through safe countries. Those judged able to remain will, however, only get the new temporary protection status rather than an automatic right to settle. This will allow them to work, but no access to benefits or to bring their family to the UK.

"I make no apology for these actions being firm, but as they will also save lives and target people-smugglers, they are also undeniably fair," said Ms Patel.

She promised extra support for "legal" refugees and "simple, safe and secure" reception centres for asylum-seekers. Sending illegal migrants to processing centres abroad remains an option as a further deterrent.

There will be a new independent age-checking agency to stop adult migrants pretending to be children. Definitions of "well-founded fear of persecution" will be tightened to prevent "unsubstantiated" claims for refugee status.

Asylum-seekers will only have one opportunity to present their case ahead of an appeal to prevent lawyers dragging out it out with new claims. Lawyers will also face court-imposed financial penalties for pursuing "meritless" claims.

People-smugglers will face life terms, rather than the current maximum of 14 years, illegal migrants will face longer sentences, and those for deported criminals who sneak back into the UK will be increased from six months to five years.

Dangerous foreign criminals who have served a sentence ofmore than a year will be barred from claiming asylum by claiming to be victim of modern slavery under a shake-up of the trafficking laws.

‘Catch and Release’ 2.0 – Immigration Blog

A hallmark of the Obama administration's failed immigration policies was its pervasive practice of "catch and release". Under this policy, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers would release aliens apprehended at the border into the interior of the country with a Notice to Appear (NTA), the immigration charging document. With the immigration courts overwhelmed by the Obama administration's open borders policies, often these court dates were years into the future.

Unsurprisingly, these economic migrants who posed as asylum seekers referred to the NTA as a permiso, meaning a permit or permission to stay. Once released, a large share of these illegal aliens disappeared into the interior with no intention of appearing before an immigration judge. Mission accomplished. The Trump administration ushered in a new era of immigration enforcement and promptly ended "catch and release" and was generally successful in removing many of the pull factors that enticed illegal aliens to take the journey north under the guise of seeking asylum.

As the old saying goes, elections have consequences, and the days of enforcing U.S. immigration law ended at noon on January 20, 2021. Through a multi-step process, in less than two months the Biden administration has eviscerated the enforcement successes of the Trump administration and ushered in an crisis at the border. Step one of this process began in the first weeks of the Biden administration by reinstituting the classic Obama-era "catch and release" policies.

Not to be outdone by his predecessor, step two adds a nefarious twist to "catch and release" that will make it impossible to ever remove a large number of the illegal aliens. Earlier this week, Breitbart News reported(and CBP confirmed) that CBP in the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas is now releasing apprehended aliens without an NTA. This reckless policy was revealed to Breitbart News by a senior level CBP law enforcement source who aptly described the plan as "insane, it is another pull factor that will overwhelm us." He added, "We are creating another entirely different class of aliens we will have to deal with years from now. We will never find most of these aliens once they are released."

In lieu of an NTA, these illegal aliens are reportedly being released after telling CBP where in the interior they intend to travel. These illegal aliens are on an "honor system" to report to the local immigration court once they arrive. Considering these economic migrants have already lied about being asylum seekers, you have to suspend reality to believe they will follow through with self-reporting to the immigration court.

In the absence of an NTA, these illegal aliens are never put on the court docket. And if they aren't on the court docket, the immigration judge cannot order the alien removed in absentia for failing to appear at the court date. Without an absentia order, DHS will not be able to promptly remove the illegal aliens once they subsequently encounter him or her. This practice all but assures that these illegal aliens will never be removed and someday will become the next "sympathetic" population that "deserves" amnesty because of their supposed deep roots in our country and other generic "contributions" to society.

According to Breitbart's CBP source, this "catch and release 2.0" policy is only being applied at the Rio Grande Valley. One of two things will happen next if this dangerous policy continues. Either it will be expanded across the southern border, or illegal aliens, coyotes, and drug cartels will wise up and funnel everyone through the Rio Grande Valley. If you think the border is overwhelmed now, just wait until hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens hone in on just one border sector as their golden ticket into the country.

Texas-Led Republican and Democratic Delegations Head to Border Friday – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Led by U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) and U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), a group of Republican senators will be in McAllen Friday on the border.

They'll take a first-hand look at the backlog at the border, and the scramble to find space for all migrants stopped trying to get into Texas.

Until we get this current crisis under control I dont see an avenue for doing other immigration reform. I have said previously that I would like to provide a permanent legal solution for DACA recipients. I think they have been used as a political football for too long, said Senator John Cornyn.

The latest news from around North Texas.

A group of Democratic congressmen and women, led by U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-TX), will travel to Carrizo Springs to tour the facility holding more than 700 teenage boys.

The trips are happening as pressure increases on the Biden administration to take action.

Vice President Harris will be the point person on the border.Former U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro, who has been active in border issues, calls this a great move.

With Vice President Harris you have somebody who is very familiar with this issue, from the time that she was attorney general of California back in 2014 when we saw a wave of unaccompanied minors, she actually led the effort in California to respond to unaccompanied minors, said Secretary Castro.

It is a big project with more than 11,000 now in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services custody.
