How to get the iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 betaDeveloper Beta 2 is out – Macworld

Update 06/24/21: Apple has released the second developer beta of iOS 15 and iPadOS 15, along with watchOS 8 and tvOS 15. Apple said the Public Beta will be available in July.

Every year, Apple releases major updates for its iPhone and iPad operating systems in the fall. For months before that, it releases beta test versions for developers and the public. Theyre often incomplete and buggy, but it can be exciting to try out everything before it gets pushed out to a billion devices in the fall.

Besides, beta testing is a good way to help find bugs and problems, and results in a more stable release this fall. Just use the Feedback app to submit bug reports.

If youre interested in running the iOS 15 or iPadOS 15 beta, heres how you get it. The Developer Beta is available now, but the Public Beta will begin in July.

If you want to know all about the new features coming to your iPhone this fall, check out our iOS 15 guide.

We highly recommend you donot run this beta on a critical device. Yes, you can downgrade back to iOS or iPadOS 14, but its not a fast and easy process, and you may lose some of the information that you havent backed up or saved in the cloud. We also recommend you backup your iPhone or iPad before you get started.

If youre a registered developer (which costs $99/yr, go here to enroll), you can download beta releases a little earlier than the general public. Apple often makes a developer beta release available for iOS and iPadOS immediately during its WWDC conference in June, with the first Public Beta release following a few weeks later. Subsequent updates are much closer together: developers usually get the update just a day before the public release, if that.

That initial developer beta is often very sketchy, so we highly recommend you back up your device first, and dont run it on your primary device!

Once youve registered your Apple ID as a developer, head to developer.apple.com/download/ using the iPhone or iPad upon which you wish to run the beta. Youll have to sign in, and then you can download and install the beta profile from that page.

Then, activate the profile by opening Settings, then General, then scrolling down to the bottom to tap on Profile. You may have to restart your device, but then the beta should show up in General > Software Updates for you to download and install.

It couldnt be easier to enter the public beta program. Simply head to beta.apple.com and tap Sign up. You need to do thison the device upon which you wish to run the beta. Youll be asked to sign in with your Apple ID, agree to terms of service, and then download a beta profile.

Once you download the beta profile, you need to activate it.

Open Settings, then tap General. Scroll down to Profile and select it. You can then tap on the iOS 15 or iPadOS 15 beta software profile and choose to activate it.

Note that the Developer Beta is available right away, but Apple says the Public Beta wont begin until July.

IDG

Once youve registered, downloaded the profile, and activated it, youre ready to download the beta.

Open Settings, then General, then Software Update. You should see that the iOS or iPadOS 15 public beta is available for downloadif you dont see it, make sure the profile is activated and installed. It can take a few minutes for the beta to show up after installing the profile, so dont be in too big a hurry.

Once you have the profile installed, you will continue to get beta updates throughout the beta program. Every time a new public beta release is available, you will automatically receive it, or can go to Settings > Software Update to download it manually. Theres no need to re-download or activate the profile.

IDG

If you want to stop receiving beta updates, thats easy enough. Just remove the profile and you wont get any more beta releasesyoull just stay on the one you have. Once the final public release of iOS 15 or iPadOS 15 is made available in the fall, your device will download that, and youll be on the regular public non-beta release schedule.

Simply removing the profile will stop you from getting further beta releases, but it doesnt get you back to iOS 14 or iPadOS 14. To do that, you need to put your iPhone or iPad in recovery mode, connect it to your Mac or PC, and then use Finder (or iTunes on PC) to download the current regular iOS version and restore your device. This will reset it to a fresh out-of-the-box state. We told you to back up anything important and not to run the beta on a critical device!

You can run iOS 15 on any iPhone that runs iOS 14, and iPadOS 15 runs on any iPad that is compatible with iPadOS 14.

Martin Luther King III, Al Sharpton to hold nationwide march against voter suppression | TheHill – The Hill

Martin Luther King III and the Rev. Al Sharpton will hold a nationwide march against voter suppression on Aug. 28 the 58th anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington.

The event, dubbed March On for Voting Rights, comes as legislatures across the country move to tighten up voting rules.

Just under 390 bills have been introduced across 48 states aimed at restricting voting access in some form in the wake of the 2020 presidential election, the marchs organizer, March On, said in a statement.

King in a statement said his father, Martin Luther King Jr., would be greatly disappointed in where we are at this particular moment, but he would not give up on the nation.

He believed in the power of people, the power of young people, and the power of change to come, and I am proud to support March On for Voting Rights to help carry out that change and recommit ourselves to finishing my fathers unfinished work, he said.

Demonstrations are planned in Atlanta, Houston, Miami and Phoenix cities in GOP-led states that have passed controversial voting reform measures since the 2020 elections.

There will also be a march in Washington, D.C., to call for passage of federal voting rights legislation.

March On said the need to pass federal voting rights protections has increase dramatically since the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, when supporters of former President TrumpDonald TrumpAOC said she doubts Biden's win would have been certified if GOP controlled the House Trump aides drafted order to invoke Insurrection Act during Floyd protests: report Overnight Defense: Intel releases highly anticipated UFO report | Biden meets with Afghan president | Conservatives lash out at Milley MORE stormed the buildingon the baseless premise that the 2020 presidential election was stolen.

The danger since then has only increased, as numerous elected officials have now codified such lies into law, citing nonexistent voter fraud and public doubts they themselves encouraged, the group said.

The march is being held in partnership with Kings Drum Major Institute, the Service Employees International Union, Sharptons National Action Network and the Future Coalition.

Al Sharpton and other black leaders attack Maya Wileys diversity record – Fox News

TheRev. Al Sharptonhas decided not to endorse in the hotly contested 2021 NYC mayoral primary race, but just two days before the June 22 election hes criticizingfrontrunner Maya Wileys diversity record.

When Wiley left the de Blasio administration in 2016 where she served as both Hizzoners counsel and the citys Minority/Women Owned Business Enterprise (WMBE) director less than 5percent of public spending went to those firms even though they account for 30 percent of Big Apple-based companies.

During her two years at City Hall, the portion of total WMBE procurement for the city actually dropped from 5.3 to 4.9 percent, according to the city comptrollers office.

"Ive not reviewed the contracts but much of our work at NAN is aroundeconomic equity and fighting to get MWBE contracts up, not down," Sharpton told The Post about his National Action Network civil rights group.

NYC'S GREENWICH VILLAGE TAKEN OVER BY CRIME, ANARCHY

City Council Majority Leader Laurie Cumbo, who is supporting Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams for mayor, had harsher words for Wileys inability to boost the bucks to minority businesses during her tenure.

"That is a disgrace. Black and brown New Yorkers need economic opportunity, not empty rhetoric," Cumbo said.

Robert L. Greene, head of the National Association of Investment Companies, questioned whether Wiley, a civil rights attorney, is a true progressive given the lack of minority contracting progress under her leadership.

"It is difficult to predict what any candidate will do when they are in office," Greene told The Post.

The Rev. Al Sharpton has decided not to endorse in the hotly contested 2021 NYC mayoral primary race, but just two days before the June 22 election hes criticizing frontrunner Maya Wileys diversity record.

"However the two best indicators seem to be track record and what are the priorities of their biggest supporters. The fundamental question is what did you do when you had an opportunity to lead?

"Unfortunately very little has been done in NYC to more broadly engage with minority business. Despite a progressive agenda the facts are that minority business enterprise (MBE) utilization rates have remained flat, leaving many minority contractors out of getting full and fair consideration.

"I hope the voters in this years NYC mayoral race understand that and elect a mayor that will provide broader opportunities for those that continue to be left behind," Greene said.

And while the MWBE work is in the past, opponents point to her current backing by the 1199 SEIU health care union as evidence that her lack of focus on boosting minority businesses will continue if shes elected mayor.

Greene said less than 2% of the unions $20 billion pension fund is with diverse asset managers.

A recent New York Post poll found Wileyin second placejust behind Adams in the hotly-contested Democratic primary race.

Other critics have attacked Wileysprogressive bona fides. The former NAACP attorney has put her own children in selective and private schools while advocating for a desegregated education system, her exclusive Prospect Park South, Brooklyn neighborhood has private security while she presses to defund the NYPD and shes raked in six-figure salaries as a career "activist."

Wiley spokeswoman Julia Savel said, A rep for Wiley said, "As head of the MWBE program, Maya Wiley brought together every New York City agency and took New York from $500 million in contracts to $1.6 billion in just two years an unprecedented jump that reflects her deep commitments to creating a New York that lifts up every community.".

Police said homicide detectives identified Herring as a suspect through the course of the investigation. He was taken into custody and taken to jail after detectives questioned him, according to police.

Police did not provide further details about the shooting or an update on the condition of the victims in the alert.

A woman died and four people were critically injured after an early Saturday morning shooting near downtown Anchorage, police said.

It remains unclear whether the five people including two women and three men were specifically targeted or caught in the crossfire, Anchorage Police Chief Kenneth McCoy told reporters Saturday afternoon in the parking lot at Northway Mall.

No arrests have been made so far.

Police are still trying to determine the motive behind the shooting, which occurred in an area where a large group of people had gathered near Fourth Avenue and Gambell Street, McCoy said.

What we know at this point is there were two vehicles with individuals who had some sort of altercation, McCoy said. Shots were fired and multiple people were injured.

Officers arrived at the scene around 2:45 a.m. and found two women and three men shot, police said in a 3:45 a.m. alert. One of the women was declared dead at a hospital, police said.

As of midday Saturday, a heavy police presence continued to occupy several blocks in the area, where officers had put up crime scene tape and were gathering statements from witnesses. A vehicle used for crime scene investigation was on Gambell between Fourth Avenue and Fifth Avenue.

People in the surrounding area said they heard what sounded like rapid gunshots early Saturday morning. Some also said they heard screaming.

When asked whether police had any suspects or could provide details about the weapon or weapons involved, McCoy said the investigation was still in its early stages. Police are investigating whether shots came from multiple vehicles, he said.

McCoy noted that the shooting marked Anchorages ninth homicide of the year.

He urged anyone with information about the shooting to call police at 311.

Just hours before, part of the bars parking lot was blocked off with police tape.

Rob Cupples owner of Cupples Cottages Vacation Rentals and a member of Third Avenue Radicals, a group focused on revitalizing east downtown told the crowd at the summer block party that the planning committee spoke Saturday morning about whether to go forward with the event.

This location and this neighborhood is no stranger to struggle, Cupples said. Its because of that struggle that (the Third Avenue Radicals) formed, its because of that struggle that we have invited you here today, tonight to be part of creating positive change within this neighborhood.

There was a moment of silence at the event to recognize the victims of the shooting.
