Seth Moulton, a Democrat who is speaking the truth about Afghanistan and President Biden – The Boston Globe

US Representative Seth Moulton is back to a familiar place in the Massachusetts congressional delegation out there, alone, as he speaks the truth about the chaotic aftermath of President Bidens decision to withdraw American troops from Afghanistan.

To say that today is anything short of a disaster would be dishonest, Moulton said in a statement he also posted on Facebook after the Taliban took over Kabul and scenes of Afghans, desperate to leave their country, took over cable news. When Biden first went on television to defend the withdrawal and blamed the chaos on Afghans who did not want to leave earlier, Moulton called out that presidential excuse as utter BS. He also told CNNs Jake Tapper that the hasty withdrawal could lead to more veteran suicides.

Meanwhile, the rest of the all-Democratic delegation have been tiptoeing down an increasingly uncomfortable line of loyalty to Biden, given the unfolding ugliness. Massachusetts lawmakers are defending Biden for doing his best with an inherited mess and pressing the administration to safely evacuate US staff and Afghan allies while avoiding any honest critiques of the president who got us into the current mess. In an interview with Slate, Representative Jake Auchincloss, an Afghan war veteran, said he had unspecified questions he would like the administration to answer, but praised Biden for having the integrity to tell the truth about the status of the war. Senators Edward J. Markey and Elizabeth Warren signed a bipartisan letter asking the Biden administration to protect Afghan women.

That leaves Moulton on the outside, where he has been ever since he beat Representative John Tierney in a 2015 primary fight. In Washington, he ruffles everyones feathers. When he campaigned to get young Democratic veterans elected to Congress, some on the left were unhappy with him, and when he tried to oust House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, in 2016 and 2018, he angered the partys powerful center. His 2020 presidential bid went nowhere, delighting detractors back home.

Moulton has the credentials to call Afghanistan as he sees it. A Harvard graduate, he joined the Marines after the terrorist attacks of 9/11; he served four tours of combat in Iraq and was twice decorated for heroism. At the same time, his critique of the Biden administrations mishandling of the Afghanistan withdrawal feeds into Republican attacks on Biden. It also raises Moultons political profile. Still, Moulton is saying out loud what many Americans, including many Democrats, are thinking. While there might be no right time for withdrawal, as Biden said, the bungled execution of the one that happened on his watch is hard to stomach.

As reported by The New York Times, for months before the scheduled withdrawal, Moulton joined other human rights advocates who told officials in the White House, the State Department, and the Pentagon they need to stop processing visas in Afghanistan and just get people to safety. That didnt happen, and the human toll is there for all to see. Over the weekend, Biden suggested the possibility of keeping an American presence at the airport past the original Aug. 31 deadline, but a Taliban spokesman warned of consequences from such an action.

There was much hand-wringing from Democrats over the decline of Americas standing in the world during Donald Trumps presidency. As Tom Donilon, now a Biden senior adviser, told The Washington Post in July 2020, By almost every measure, Americas standing and influence in the world has been damaged over the last three-and-a-half years. Over the past few days, global reaction to Americas withdrawal from Afghanistan has not been kind and neither has Moulton.

Scott Ferson, a political consultant who advised Moulton during his first congressional run, said that one of his traits, either like it or dislike it, is that hes not afraid to say what he believes. What if that helps to undermine the president Moulton endorsed and supports? Everything is politicized today, said Ferson. But why do we as Democrats think its a good idea to continue to not face the reality of the situation [in Afghanistan]? Its not the withdrawal policy, Ferson said. Its the intelligence failure of the withdrawal that needs to be talked about amongst Democrats.

Moulton started talking about that truth right away. Painful as it is, more Democrats need to join in the conversation.

Fort Meade NSAFort Meade NSA Relocation Information

Welcome to Fort Meade NSA!

Fort Meade, Maryland, is home to the Defense Information School, the headquarters of United States Cyber Command, the National Security Agency (NSA), the Defense Courier Service, and Defense Information Systems Agency headquarters. Fort Meade NSA provides support and services for the NSA as well as more than 50 other tenant units including military intelligence and police brigades. Fort Meade NSA is the U.S. center for information, intelligence, and cyber operations.

Although an Army base, named after Union General George G. Meade, Fort Meade NSA is host to all five branches of the military which in part accounts for the reason Fort Meade NSA is Marylands largest employer and the Armys third largest installation workforce, including more than 16,000 military personnel and over 30,000 civilians.

National Security Agency Headquarters

Fort Meade NSA is a fully equipped and functioning city unto itself, sized at more than 5,000 acres. The base has the accommodations youd expect from a large installation including an updated commissary and Exchange, but also seven public schools located on base, in addition to robust recreation and entertainment outlets which includes family favorite, Burba Lake.

Fort Meade NSA is in the middle of their East Campus build, scheduled to end in 2023. The East Campus encompasses 242 acres and is the center hub for the National Security Agency and U.S. Cyber Command.

1) If assigned to Fort Meade NSA, where do we live?

Fort Meade NSA offers privatized military housing on base under the management of Corvias. Immediately off base, the most popular cities include Odenton, Hanover, and Gambrills. Further away, but equally if not more popular, are the cities of Columbia, Crofton, and Severna Park. Glen Burnie and Bowie are about 10 miles away, and Annapolis is close to 20.

There are many reasons families choose to live further away in Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Maryland. The most common factors are affordability and the need for dual military families who hope to split the difference between duty stations.

2) Where do Fort Meade NSA kids go to public school?

Fort Meade NSA school children are under Anne Arundel County, Maryland, jurisdiction for public schools. There are multiple elementary schools, one middle, and a high school located on Fort Meade NSA, but the schools are not associated with DODEA. Off base public schools in nearby cities, through Anne Arundel County Public Schools, Howard County Public Schools, and Prince George's County Public Schools are also popular possibilities.

3) Does Fort Meade NSA have a hospital?

Fort Meade NSA does not have an ER, but has Kimbrough Ambulatory Care Center. Routine and speciality care appointments as well as same day surgery are options. In this area, U.S. Family Health Plan Johns Hopkins (Tricare Prime) is a prevalent choice for non emergency care off base.

Fort Meade NSA servicemembers and their families benefit from a centralized location on the north side of the National Capital Region (NCR). Fort Meade NSA sits between two major cities, Baltimore, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. both about 30 miles away. The capital of Maryland, Annapolis, (home to the U.S. Naval Academy) is a short drive and a cherished destination for exploring with out of town guests.

Although day to day traffic aligns more with Baltimore patterns, military members relocating to Fort Meade NSA are served well by understanding the term, Inside or Outside the Beltway, due to the likelihood of occasional or regular commutes into Washington, D.C.

Inside or Outside the Beltway is a descriptor for Interstate 495. It is a 64-mile loop around Washington, D.C., that encompasses suburbs of Virginia and Maryland. The Beltway is used to describe where real estate is located, a reference to where political action occurs (inside the Beltway in D.C.), and most frequently in traffic reports. This information is particularly useful if your family includes dual servicemembers. The NCR is one of the easiest places for an active duty couple to be stationed near each other.

D.C. Area Military Installations

Public transportation is integral to the way of life in the NCR. Servicemembers use public transportation to save time and money. The military provides a stipend for public transport and parking can be a challenge depending on location. Fort Meade NSA does have ample parking, but travel for work to the Pentagon or Walter Reed has parking challenges.

Marylands public transportation system, MARC, has a station in Odenton, which is about five miles from Fort Meade NSA. The Penn Line of the MARC runs between Baltimores Penn Station, through BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport, and into Union Station in Washington, D.C., where Metro stops are accessible. If youd like to bypass the MARC and pick up the closest Metro stop via car or bus, look for the Green line and Greenbelt Station.

Because of its location near Washington, D.C., Baltimore, and Annapolis, Fort Meade NSA and surrounding area residents have access to year-round adventures, including cultural activities of every kind, sporting events, and the abundance of government and historic buildings to tour. Youll find something for everyone: festivals, museums, food, wine, and concerts.

If interested in major Washington, D.C. events such as the Cherry Blossom Festival, Marine Corps Marathon, Army 10 Miler, or the National Christmas Tree Lighting, do note that these require advance planning, as do visits to the White House or the Pentagon.

Fort Meades centric, Mid-Atlantic location provides vacation destinations that include river, bay, and ocean excursions in Virginia, Washington D.C., and Maryland. Western Maryland is known for access to mountain terrain, and many families find themselves heading there to seek relief from humid summers, but also to sharpen their ski skills in the winter.

The Eastern Shore is home to abundant waterside tourist attractions as are the Atlantic Ocean beach destinations such as Ocean City and Rehoboth Beach. Keep in mind theres plenty of additional recreation outlets within a 2-3 hour drive in neighboring West Virginia and Pennsylvania.

Terrorists attacking Chinese nationals not to be spared: NSA – The News International

ISLAMABAD: National Security Adviser (NSA) Dr. Moeed Yusuf Tuesday said the perpetrators of terrorist attacks on Chinese nationals working in Pakistan would be brought to justice.

Moeed had a video call with the State Councilor, Minister of the Public Security of the Peoples Republic of China Zhao Kezhi. The two sides discussed regional peace and security as well as other matters of mutual interest. Both sides resolved to remain closely engaged over the evolving situation in the region and reiterated the importance of and their support to a peaceful political settlement and all inclusive setup in Afghanistan.

The two sides resolved that the all-weather Pakistan China friendship could not be undermined by third countries that try to target their bilateral interests. They agreed that the Afghan soil should not be allowed to be used against other countries by terrorists.

Both sides expressed satisfaction over the excellent bilateral relations between their two countries. Zhao said he was looking forward to visit Pakistan and meet Moeed once the COVID-19 situation improved.

Back to inspections at NSA sheep sale at Builth Wells – The Scottish Farmer

Rams offered for sale at the NSA Wales and Border sale, at the Royal Welsh Showground, on Monday September 20, will be inspected, following the easing of Covid regulations.

The veterinary inspection system which is unique and sets the sales apart from others, gives buyers added confidence in the huge range of tups on offer, the organisers said.

Chairman Graham Jones added: Our policy first and foremost was to get the sale back on. Were glad were allowed to achieve the usual high standards now that the regulations have been eased.

Every precaution will be taken to safeguard against Covid. Masks will be available as well as sanitisers and biosecurity. The inspection decision does of course remain subject to covid regulations

The inspection system was devised by Montgomery vet, the late Terry Boundy, who was invited to the early planning meetings in the 1970s. He had seen ram inspections in New Zealand and suggested training and then overseeing a group of inspectors in overall ram inspection.

He recalled that he had seen so many rams with major testicular faults that could be picked out with a physical examination. Often rams that couldnt perform had a good libido and appeared to be working.

Former NSA O’Brien: Every Serious Person Knows This Is Biden’s Disaster – The Federalist

Every serious person knows that President Joe Biden is responsible for the botched Afghanistan withdrawal, says Ambassador Robert C. OBrien, former National Security Adviser to President Trump.

For days, Biden has tried to pin the unfurling Afghanistan crisis on his predecessor. But OBrien insisted the Republican administration wouldve handled the withdrawal differently.

The first and obvious question, would this have happened had President Trump been reelected? host Hugh Hewitt asked OBrien on Mondays Hugh Hewitt Show.

No, look, it would have never happened in this manner. I mean, the President was committed to drawing down troops from Afghanistan, but when he left office, there were 2,500 American troops, importantly, 5,000 NATO troops. Kabul was free, OBrien said.

Look, domestically on both sides of the aisle, everyone who is honest who will talk to you knows that President Trump would have never presided over a situation like this. That goes for our foreign friends and our foes alike. President Trump was all about peace through strength and America first, he added. And I dont think anyone in an honest moment, whatever theyre saying now, believes that this could have happened under President Trump and the strength that he projected. And so you know, its a sad situation for America.

In addition to noting that Trump promised he would not preside over a Saigon-style retreat from Afghanistan, OBrien said all the civilians would have had to have been evacuated before withdrawing the military.

He was not interested in at all seeing our foes driving around in American-made Humvees or vehicles or getting access to American weapons. So you know, it was critical that he wanted all the equipment retrograded back to America before we left, OBrien added. And then of course, with the Taliban, any attacks on the United States which they have engaged in with our troops, failure to negotiate in good faith with the government of Afghanistan, those would have all been conditions that would have been, you know, slowed down or stopped withdrawal. So this wouldnt have happened under [Trump].

OBrien then called on Americans to pray for our soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines and the leadership of this country and implored the current administration to evacuate our friends, the interpreters and other enablers, locally-employed staff of the embassy.

Weve got to focus right now on making this evacuation work, as bad as things look, OBrien said.
